Another terrific Thursday of technological tussling awaits!

The main event is between two veterans trying to avoid falling to 0-2 on the season, Whiplash and Hypershock. We also have three British bots coming from across the pond in Monsoon, Quantum, and Beta, as well as three rookie bots making their debuts in Starchild, Horizon, and Shreddit Bro. As a reminder, please put any discussion of match results under spoiler tags until 24 hours after the episode airs out of consideration for people who can't watch the episode live, especially if you decide to watch the episode early on Discovery+ before it airs on TV. Showtime for us TV viewers is 8PM EST on Discovery, about an hour from the time of this post.

We finally get to see the new Kraken tonight.

In other BattleBots news, the new BattleBots Destruct-a-Thon nightly live show is debuting in Las Vegas next week.

This live show will reportedly feature bots from the main series doing offseason testing and exhibition fights, tryout fights for newcomers looking to make a name for themselves and possibly earn a spot in the next season, and even legendary bots such as Nightmare and Overkill being restored and coming out of retirement to put on a show. These fights most likely won't be televised or streamed anywhere, but if you happen to live in Las Vegas or are planning a trip out there, this might be worth trying to get tickets to see in person.

Fighting robot time!

Opening the show with a mini-bot abuse PSA was pretty funny. but anyways, IT'S ROBOT FIGHTIN' TIME! Monsoon vs. Black Dragon leads us off, a battle of Brits vs. Brazilians.

And there's the first application of the new rule in place this season where any sort of movement keeps your bot alive in a fight. Last season, that fight would have been a double KO to a judge's decision, likely resulting in Emulsifier getting the decision based on damage inflicted, but instead Malice gets the victory for being barely able to limp around while Emulsifier is immobilized.

Kraken vs. Beta was really nutty and probably my favorite fight of the night so far. Kraken's new weapon definitely hits hard, especially to be able to damage a bot as tough as Beta like that. But John Reid, in his infinite wisdom, waited for a good hit, took out Kraken's weapon at the cost of Beta's own weapon getting bent but not broken, and won the fight in a very close (but IMO correct) judge's decision. The image of Beta battering Kraken with its bent hammer was hilarious too.

Battle of the rookie bots up next. Shreddit Bro looks like a bot made from Reddit memes and Horizon looks like Gigabyte and SMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE had a baby.

That was certainly one of the BattleBots fights of all time

puts into perspective how difficult it is just to get a bot moving the way you want it to on that weird floor, that the veteran teams do so easily it spoils me

Hypershock had a rough start but destroyed Whiplash once it got right-side-up again. It's not very often we see Whiplash ripped apart like that. That was a nice main event to cap off the show, but Kraken vs. Beta was still my favorite fight of the night. Solid episode aside from that one dud.

That was an episode of ups and downs. Some super fun fights and some pretty meh fights.

Kraken was the real star of the show. It looks amazing and destructive. Two of the best combinations for a BattleBot.
