What are your thoughts on the depiction of Australians in US media?

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/7/4/AAZiH8AAEIeK.jpg

I was thinking about this the other day but unless you count Soap Operas made in Australia for the UK, I can't think of any "normal" dudes from Australia in American or European TV, books or film. They're completely extroverted weirdos. Usually with bad hyigene (Dr Chase not withstanding)

Even Star Trek that has been going on for 60 years, over 20 movies, thousands of hours of TV at this point surely and went out of it's way to have as diverse cast as possible didn't just have any Australian dudes fixing the power conduits in medbay.

Can you think of any?
And what are your thoughts?

Dingodile is most accurate

but to be serious its mostly just funny. For the most part Id say we follow America pretty closely but we are way more relaxed/casual about everything.

Dunno what that is but we're not talking about Australian media, we're talking about Australians in Western media

This yeah.

It is funny considering how many big Australian actors there are though. Surely at least some of them have used their normal accent in at least one major American movie? Lol

I remembered a random example! I think Sam in Gears of War 3 was Australian and she wasn't a weirdo.

In all seriousness the popularity of Bluey does show that Australians don't need to be Outback weirdos to be appealing!

I am reminded about how Fang and Vanille were set up as "otherworldly" by giving them an Australian accent. Basically a form of foreshadowing if you pay attention. However, people complained nonstop about how bad Vanille's accent was and they should have gotten someone better like they did with Fang. This was especially unfortunate as Vanille was voiced by a literal Australian while Fang was done by an American, showing that authenticity means a whole lot less than perception.

One time I was bored at work so I went onto Google Maps and went to Australia and found the studio where Big Brother Australia used to be made (in the middle of a theme park). I didn't have coordinates or an address or anything like that. I just figured it out and had some vague clues from the show itself. That was fun.
