Just trying to see what I'm missing out on. I got an eight-year-old wallet that's tearing apart on me -- single fold, leather, built for cash and cards but not necessarily to be found if it's lost, and still has a coin zipper because reasons I guess. You've seen its kind before.

Currently I want pocket-space back and it's going to take more than a wallet change to do that, so I figured ya'll may know something about modern wallets and how to make these work better for you.

What's good about them? What do you like about yours? Are they worth the extra money? I'm more interested in a stand-alone wallet than one built into a phone case but am open to whatever's worked for you.

This conversation for me got started on about Ekster's brands. Quick example:

When I was looking for a new smaller wallet for more space I did some research on Ekster, Ridge, and Bellroy wallets.

I ultimately went with the Bellroy Apex Slim wallet. Its been great aside for a few things. It holds everything I need and is very very light. Sometimes too light and it has slipped out of my pocket a few times but luckily I have never lost it. It slides out of my pocket while driving though and slips between the driver side seat and center console or near the door depending on which pocket I have it in, which is really annoying. Its made me contemplate on buying one of those tracker cards just in case I do lose it, but I dont see me upgrading any time soon because of the price and its held up well over the last couple of years. If I do upgrade I would probably go with an Ekster wallet, because its hard and i would hear it if it ever dropped.

My wallet has RFID blocking. I guess that's modern?

It's pretty slim, no place for coins because I haven't carried coins in years.

My spouse has the phone case that holds a couple cards in the back.

I've thought about buying one of those "modern" wallets that only holds a few cards and bit of paper money. But I just can't justify the expense (and some of those are way too much...) when my existing wallet is good enough, despite the fact that I use cash about half a dozen times a year.

I would love a smaller wallet, but I haven't seen one that holds an acceptable amount of cash

Not that I've done much research

If anyone has some good links please lmk

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

???

The whole point of these wallets is that they're just for cards. They're made for people who don't use cash anymore.

secrid is good, you pop your cards out with a little trigger toggle thing, but you have to fill it, cards will slip out of you keep less than 5 in the main thing.

If "modern" means "expensive", as it seems to mean, then no, I don't use one.

I have a wallet case like this -

https://www.amazon.ca/kwmobile-Wallet-Case-Compatible-TCL/dp/B08K8G8WP5

It's kinda supposed to double as a phone case and my wallet. i don't actually have a phone case on my phone, so it's smaller than it would be, so it combines with the wallet for one item rather than two separate things in my pocket.

The thing is this version sucks -

When I bought my phone, I got a case just like this, except it had a magnet, with part of it held in the case and the other part on my phone. so 90% of the time i'd have my phone stuck i the wallet, but if i did need to pull my phone out it was super easy to just pull it off the magnet, do whatever I need, and put it back on the case. I really love that set up.

But eventually that case got too worn down and I had to replace it... and this version isn't that wallet. It has no magnet; it's just a phone case glued to the fabric. Which means putting the phone in and out is a hassle of fitting it in and clipping in the phone case. Which I'm essentially not going to do throughout the day. The result is now I just have a phone with no case in my pocket and this wallet thats supposed to hold my phone but now is just mostly a waste of space!

The kiosk I originally got my phone from doesn't have any cases like what I got, and I havent' found a good replacement online.... but hopefully soon....

I use a Flipside wallet. It snaps closed with a clamshell design and can hold both cards and cash. It even has a slot on the back that can hold either coins or thin keys.

This part doesn't bother me much -- each one I have lasts me the better half of a decade and I'm guessing the average cost of a wallet like I have now is $30-$50...

...but then this is here and, yeah, that's where I get bothered more. Nice to know you never have to worry about losing the wallet, but I've had coworkers talking about having to replace those batteries for the trackers annually and that does not appeal to me.

This one has won me over the most so far, thank you -- and it's the most affordable to boot, sweet! Before I buy though...

...I do like the Flipside 4 that I saw. Is it a tight limit on ten bills @StifledSilence ? I will often have less, but I'm going to break the occasional $20 bill and that turns into multiple bills fast. Is it just not recommended to do more than ten bills but mostly fine, or is it bending the clip and tearing the paper at that point?

It cant fit a ton of bills but I would say like a stack of 5-10 folded bills is fine. When you overload it the wallet has a hard time closing and staying closed. The money clip also holds more cards if you dont have cash. I usually keep gift cards back there.

I decided on that Flipside 4 after all! That other wallet I thought about was longer and big in its own right, yeah, though I'm a front-pocket man and thought that would not look as lumpy since it was taller. Changed my mind though. Thanks everybody!

I got the Flipside 4 faster than expected. +1

I like it, I just gotta decide if I want to keep it as-is or buy the accessory to hold four more cards. I'll try it awhile first to see if I can go without it.
