An interactive map published by Our World in Data has shown that Nigeria ranks 2nd among the top 10 countries of the world with the lowest life expectancy of 52.7 years.

According to the details of the map all the top 10 countries with the shortest life expectancy are African countries with Chad ranking first with 52.5 years followed by Nigeria, Lesotho, Central African Republic, South Sudan, Somalia, Eswatini, Cte d'Ivoire, Guinea and Mali with none of them above 60 years.

The report illustrates the huge divide in life expectancy globally and to arrive at its conclusion, it uses the most up-to-date figures from the United Nations Population Division which track how countries are developing.

According to the report, neither the UK nor the US made it into the top 30 countries of the world with the lowest life expectancy as the UK has a life expectancy of 80.7 years which puts it in 34th place while the US comes in far lower at 69th position with a life expectancy of 77.2 years.

The top 10 countries of the world with the shortest life expectancy include: Chad - 52.5 years; Nigeria - 52.7 years; Lesotho - 53.1 years; Central African Republic - 53.9; South Sudan - 55 years; Somalia - 55.3 years; Eswatini - 57.1 years; Cote d-Ivoire - 58.6 years; Guinea - 58.9 years and Mali - 58.9 years.

While top 10 countries of the world with the longest life expectancy include: Monaco - 85.9 years; Hong Kong - 85.5 years; Macao - 85.4 years; Japan - 84.8 years; Australia - 84.5 years; Switzerland - 84 years; Malta - 83.8 years; South Korea - 83.7 years; Liechtenstein - 83.3 years and Norway - 83.2 years.

The US has all the money and some of the brighest minds in the world, why can't they get healthcare right?

Surprised Japan isn't #1 considering it has the oldest population. Also surprised Australia is so high. I would have the thought the heat would be rough on old folks.

Then again I guess the cold isn't good on old folks either and Norway is doing alright.

Edit: Probably goes without saying that it's likely North Korea actually has the lowest but we don't have data from there.

Yeah, even with insurance healthcare in general is a giant pain in the ass in the united states. *Sorta' lengthy rant incoming. I been bottling this one in, lol*

I have a insurance plan that includes both medicare and medicaid, so I'm usually covered for things like hospital visits, prescription refills, things like that.

Thing is, when it comes to actually finding a primary care doctor or another specialist, you are pretty much on your own (You can call your insurance to give you a list of providers, but its basically the same list you can already see if you go under your insurance provider list. Thing is, this list is most often that not outdated....providers could be retired, died, or moved ages ago. You just have to call everyone one by one).

I deal with sickle cell anemia related issues, real bad pain crises when they pop up (which can be frequent depending on what type of sickle cell you have. I have the double wammy fuck you variant). Basically, I usually take strong pain medicine alongside something like hydroxyurea to attempt to prevent the pain attacks. There is a ongoing opioid epidemic going on in the united states, so basically those of us who has been taking opioid medication for legitamate issues for years is currently caught in the crossfire with the DEA's war on dudes currently dying via fentanyl on the streets.

My long time doctor of over like 14 years office went bankrupt. (Her practice went through some stuff during covid. She was the only doctor at her pratice, so her and all of the nurses caught covid twice and had to shut down for some months. Not only that her husband died. She just gave up). When said office went bankrupt, we patients weren't notified at all/no one got transferred so we were own our own finding a new primary care doctor. This is where the bullshit comes in. You call these offices, tell them your issues, sometimes you have to waste your time making an appointment with them (while most will actually charge for some BS examination or lab fee to get that insurance money) only for them to go "whoa boy, yeah, we see your issues and the medicines you take to deal with it........yeah we don't write those kind of scripts here". DEA has practically every single doctor shook, and its effecting the wrong people. Mind you medical records is easily accesible...pharmacies and whatever hospital you visit can easily see your records at any notice so it isn't like I'm hiding anything.

Pain management clinics and how they make you feel like a criminal soon you walk into the door is a whole nother' can of worms. I did this for about a year and some months before the great doctor I was seeing there retired (my luck right) and was replaced with a nurse practitioner that never had a single conversation with me about my issues.

You know what, there is a sickle cell clinic in my state. Has everything I would need all in one place, a primary care doctor that actually specializes in the condition I have, a hematologist in the next room, got their own pain management set up, a pharmacy down stairs, just everything in one convenient place right. I call....."Hey, I would like to make an appointment at this place" Them: "Hi, ok sure. Do you have sickle cell?" (I'm thinking the fuck kind of dumb question was that this is a sickle cell clinic, of course I'm not going to actually say this but I am thinking it) Me: "Yeh". Them: "Ok, now I we need is for your labs and office notes from your current primary care physician to be sent over". Me: "Well I can see all my medical records and what not on this on mychart, is there anyway I can just send you guys this?" Them: "Well despite us also using mychart, you never actually been to our hospital before so we can't see them even if you were to give us a code to do so". Me: "Alright then, I'll call my primary office now to get this going"

Now I called my current primary care office yesterday at around 9:00am eastern....I like to call nice and early so whatever needs doing can get done before everything closes at around 4:30pm. Me: "Hey, so I need my latest labs and office notes, all that stuff to be sent to this here sickle cell clinic. I really need to get in ASAP because I feel like my arms are about to fall off and need help" (didn't say the last part of course, but damn am I sore right now). .........no reply. *I call back one more time later in the day and left a message for my doc on mychart talking about what I need doing, no reply.*

Today arrives, and i get a message from my doctor on mychart...."oh sorry, we did not see the message yesterday because our systems have like a 6 hour delay and I rely on my nurses to pass the message and they never got around to doing it blahblahblah. By the time we called, they said the doctor left the office yesterday* Me:........"so can you do it like, today please?" *Gets a call at around 5:00pm* Them: "Yeah so, the doctor you are trying to get in touch with had a medical emergency, so we have to try again tomorrow*
https://i.imgur.com/zR07Mxf.gifv

All the while I am balled up in the corner feeling like death and haven't had my regular medicine refills to control this pain since around the 7th of this month. I have all the icy hot, heating pad, water, and gatorade (real good to re-hydrate with if I am drinking too much water) in the world, but when it comes to stopping the pain all you can really do is wait it out without stronger medicine. Finally, you don't want to make frequent trips to the emergency room.....sickle cell patients can and will get crazy stereotyped for being drug seekers since in the united states its still not that super well known of a condition. I have had it happen recently, one of my best friends who also happened to have sickle cell and passed away back in 2019 had it happen to him way, way more than me, and its just a garbage situation all around.

Long story short, yeah, I can see why life expectancy in the united states is low. Violent crime aside, I can emphasize with people who had a condition just as bad if not worse than mine yet cannot get help despite having great insurance and medical records for anyone to see on a whim.

Lol.

My mum lives in the biggest city in Australia, she regularly gets funnel webs, red backs in her garden. the people across the road from her had to get a red belly black snake removed from their pool. Its not uncommon to see red bellies and brown snakes in the suburbs.

I remember for me as a kid it was the Redback Spiders that were taken very seriously. Generally could always find them hiding away in the yard somewhere It was hammered in quite a lot as a kid to take them seriously so was always cautious enough to never get bit.

Even now if I see a chair in the backyard I still often have a quick glance to make sure there is no Redbacks.

My parents house had these massive plant tree things in their front yard and we had a two storey house so we often had prime views of these absolutely massive and colorful spiders just chilling out in their massive webs strung up between those giant plants. They were cool. Never had any interest going into the house or anything as they had their spot. Probably did a good job stopping flies buzzing around the balcony.

Weirdly enough I'm not sure if I've ever noticed a Hunstman.

I had a wooden cubby house growing up, and my folks would always do a red back check before I played in it.

Also had to tell my folks if there were any funnels in the backyard.

By the time we called, they said the doctor left the office yesterday* Me:........"so can you do it like, today please?" *Gets a call at around 5:00pm* Them: "Yeah so, the doctor you are trying to get in touch with had a medical emergency, so we have to try again tomorrow*

You ainy lyin.

Lets not go after the pharma assholes who pocketed billions off of this crisis. Lets bully doctors into treating all patients like criminals.

Meanwhile how moch fentanyl is flowing in ???? Ssshhh

Apparently so

also killing in secret since no one has been killed by a spider in Australia since the 70s

Most spiders don't wanna bite or hunt people. They just want to chill and eat bugs.

But if you are bit you call up an ambo and get some anti-venom in ya and you'll be fine. Sore but you'll live.

Yeah, prohibitively expensive Healthcare, combined with Americans generally having shitty diets made up of low quality, cheap food, combined with a cultural mentality that glorifies overworking yourself leads to this
