So, like many others I have finally gotten around to the last of us games now that the show is out. It also helps that they both went on sale at Christmas and I just got my PS5 a few months ago, but I digress.

Went into last of us 2 with a lot of hesitancy because of what everyone has said about it. To be honest... I don't get the hate... like at all. From my experience, it was a better game in every single way. From the story telling to the gameplay, everything was just so well done.

Emotionally, everything hit so well and the story was told so greatly it had me tearing up for all characters. By the end, I didnt want anything to happen to either Ellie or Abby. I fully understood Ellie (and our) connection to Joel and her need for revenge, but Abby was completly justified herself. I could really get into it, but this lets just make it short and say this is one of if not the best stories of revenge in any media imo.

Gameplay was simply better on all fronts. I played 1 and 2 back to back so I didnt have any nostalgia goggles. The first is great and has its own charm, but 2 is simply just a better version and hard to even argue its anything but imo.

I know alot of people are going to say its political because of certain charactor directions. Honestly though, even if you have strong political views or beliefs, if you cant put that aside to see what a tremendous game this is outside of those factors, I feel something is just wrong with you.

Great game. Better than the first. Loved it.

I overall agree with you.

I think the fundamental thing is if the game gets you to think like this;

They've done what they intended for you.

But for a lot of people (or at least the vocal people on the internet) could never forgive Abby after what she did to Joel. So if you can't get past that you've got half the game that is overall unappealing to you.

It doesn't help that some people think what happens to Joel is some sort of attack on the character itself on a meta sense which I think is weird.

On another level a few of the major plot beats leaked so a lot of people already made up their mind when that happened. I wonder how things would have been if that didn't happen.

The hate for this game was fucking crazy and well beyond anything I've ever seen. Some Redditor posted some fake news about a disgruntled employee and his coworkers are being unfairly treated so the employee leaked out the game plot.

My problem isn't even so much what Abby did to Joel. I can understand a kid going after someone who killed their parents. For me it's just that Abby is completely unlikable. Why is she more special than any of the other dozens of children who's parents were murdered by Joel?

I just overall find the plot to be much more shallow than the plot of 1. It's every "revenge bad, eye for an eye" story ever told. It also uniquivically takes a "Joel was wrong at the end of 1" stance, which I feel cheapens what 1 was doing.

She was the only one who did something about it I guess?

It absolutely does not and I have no idea why anyone thinks this.

one of the game's messages is that it could have been any one of them, but Abby already had some info on him plus freedom fighter/terrorist training, so why not her? it also connects both games, plus, the doctor is one of the few canonical people we see Joel kill, so we can't just be like, "hey man, I didn't kill him in my playthrough!"
