Minnesota solved hunger I guess. No one hungry.

Regardless of this insane statement the bill did in fact pass the state senate. Vote was 38-26. 4 GOP joined all 34 Dems to pass it.

Late to this but David Cameron made changes to the way the BBC is governed replacing the old governing body the BBC Trust with the BBC Board. The board contains political appointees most notably the Chairman, and although the Director-General (who is editor-in-chief) is appointed by the board not the government, the chairman leads the appointment process so the government is effectively in control by proxy.

The current Director-General, Tim Davie who is at the heart of this mess is a former Tory and came aboard in 2020 on a platform of cracking down on activism of course given that the BBC was already supposedly impartial if not slanted to the right already that clearly meant suppressing anything left or progressive. The current Chairman, Richard Sharp, was appointed by Boris Johnson in 2021 and is openly corrupt helping Boris Johnson get an 800k loan which he did not disclose during appointment proceedings. He is also Rishi Sunaks old boss when they were at Goldman Sachs. It should be noted here that the Chairman can fire the Director-General yet this has not happened despite everything.

So in short, the BBC has over the last seven years been captured by the Tory party. It can and should be saved however. I see some so-called progressives online calling for its demise and that just seems nonsensical to me as if it goes away the replacement will be private media. You will not get progressive or impartial coverage that is run by capital. Labour need to clean house and reform the whole thing when they are in government. Especially as just today it came out that the Tories successfully pressures the BBC into being harsher towards Labour. Also not calling lockdowns by the word lockdown.

Credit Suisse looking like it might go under - they are resorting to begging the Swiss National Bank to make a public show of support. This bank might be too big to fail without causing systemic contagion.

For those curious basically the (completely bullshit) theory of the case is that the FDA rushed approval of the drug and that it's unsafe (they didn't and it isn't, and the time period for challenging it on that basis is like six years, not 22)

Only until other countries also have declining birth rates through increased education.

If you want to create 3rd world baby factories into perpetuity to propogate it, it would work.

But I find that more morally reprehensible than just agreeing pyramid schemes to prop up old people not needing to work aren't a good idea.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/16/us/florida-textbooks-african-american-history.html

The New York Times reports...
In an attempt to cater to Florida, at least one publisher made significant changes to its materials, walking back or omitting references to race, even in its telling of the Rosa Parks story.

NYT shows how the textbook originally stated: "The law said African Americans had to give up their seats on the bus if a white person wanted to sit down"

then changed to a more indirect draft version

"She was told to move to a different seat because of the color of her skin"

to finally

"She was told to move to a different seat"

with no explanation of why she was told to move

If I'm reading the NYT article correctly, the textbook publisher backpedalled back to the "color of her skin" version and pulled the completely whitewashed version from review by the state when they reached out for comment on this story but this is exactly the kind of effect DeSantis and the GOP are trying to get from publishers, threatening them into "self-censoring" to comply with these laws.
