In the quest to understand exactly why we sleep, scientists have gone to great lengths to study the way animals snooze.

What theyve found is that almost every animal on Earth has its own version of sleep.

But researchers recently discovered that reptiles go through almost the same sleep stages as humans, according to a study published last week in the journal Science.

Electrodes placed on the surface of five bearded dragons brains recorded evidence of the lizards going through the stages of human slumber: slow-wave sleep, sharp waves, ripples and rapid eye movement (REM). This was a somewhat surprising finding because until recently, scientists had only studied the brain activity of sleeping mammals and birds, not non-avian reptiles.

The evolution of REM and other sleep stages have long been a mystery for scientists. Thats why researchers decided to focus on bearded dragons for the study, since the native Australian lizard is the most distantly related to birds in the tree of life, making them perfect for understanding the evolution of sleep.

The new findings suggest that sleep for some animals such as birds, reptiles and possibly even dinosaurs may have evolved from a common ancestor, according to Gilles Laurent, principal author of the study and director of brain research at the Max Planck Institute in Germany.
Previously, some scientists had argued that REM and slow-wave sleep cycles were newly evolved sleeping features because they were not found in creatures such as fish and amphibians animals that were typically considered primitive.

But Laurent argues that the findings could mean these sleep stages evolved earlier than initially thought.

Woke means "I'm angry that something is being inclusive, but if I explain why it will out me as a bigot, so I'll use this term instead."

The handful of times I've heard this term used in person it was used by liberals as a positive description of an individual. I'm also confused on what it even means with the responses on this thread.

Most time racial slurs...that people just don't want to say. Other times anti gay slurs, and then a catch call term for stuff right wingers don't like... think PC or sjw.

What it was, was a term black people used to mean awareness. But racist white people took as their rallying cry. But yet we can't judge the right .

That's what it originally being used as. To indicate someone opening their eyes to the truth of this or that societal grift or veiled injustice.

Then bigots took it and twisted it to mock people.

He doesn't come out of hiding often, but when he does it's to give several speeches over the last few years telling the youth to stop being woke and him whining about cancel culture. He says that being woke is a buzzkill that doesn't allow fun and is rightfully costing democrats votes.

It's been his main concern aka he can't help that he's a boomer.

"Woke" is basically acceptance to a draconian degree, and jumping on anything to feign support, when in actuality they just do it for themselves. Harass and shame people for not tolerating your views, but you won't do the same for theirs. It's full of bitter, angry people who are disguising their own hate and misery under the guise of caring about others. (See: doing the absolute bare minimum for the causes they support online, but offline where it actually matters they won't make a sound)

Note that this is NOT the general principles of the left. Whereas the left means well and are reasonable like the general principles of the right, the woke left is basically the equivalent of the far right: extreme ideologies of their sides to the point of intolerance. To that end, they are some of the most hateful, intolerant people on the planet who don't care about the people they claim to help; they just wait until the next thing they're told to be mad about to point all their frustrations at.
Hence why none of them do anything outside of self-important online posting to help those causes. They can't hate by volunteering to help refugees; they can't hate by donating to charities; they can't hate by buying food for the less fortunate. Of course not, because it's really all about them being able to vent their awful lives while seeming righteous by doing so.

Look at Hogwarts Legacy. Not a single one did any meaningful thing to even halt sales. They just jumped on it 'cause they were told to, it let them hate something, claim to be trans supporters, and then ditch it in a few days.

The pejorative use of "woke" started as the update to the social justice warrior. It referred to someone who was too ardent, overreaching in their complaints, or using progress as a justifier for personal tangents. Like sjw, the term was appropriated by staunch bigots who needed a term to say, "Fuck you if you're not a bigoted shithead like me."

There can never be a term for people who get mad at the lack of diversity on a cereal box cover or who claim that it's impossible to divorce cartoons from the bigoted eras in which the characters were created. Anytime you try and claim that something is a bridge too far, there's a giant red wave of bigots who loudly proclaim that any path to progress is a bridge too far.

Woke means whatever the right wing incs think they mean, anything involving a black/brown or lgbqt+ people in their movie, books and video games that makes these so call "alpha" males uncomfortable

Its a word thats used to other people that conservatives dont like. It basically means doing anything that the conservative movement has decided is wrong.
