there's a pickup truck in my neighborhood with this sticker on it and I'm struggling to understand what it means. my initial thought was that it's a right-wing way to criticize "woke" people. But that doesn't make sense because Freddy only kills people in their sleep, so staying awake, or "woke", would be the only way to stay safe. It's probably talking about cancel culture, and all the associated things. The original deliberately avoided making any connections because they didn't want to be seen as exploiting headlines at the time. Also, Freddy wasn't meant to become an iconic character. The original was just meant to be a ghost story. Freddy vs Jason, which didn't have Wes Craven's involvement, did have Freddy suggestively licking the back of a photo though. But still, that was nearly 20 years after the first movie came out. I'd call that after the fact. ... Copied to Clipboard!
