My interpretation is that Batman does not have to hold back at all. He knows that no matter how much force or tech he uses, his opponents will not die.

So let's say Megaman gets a final sneak attack before dying permanently. What's the most amount of damage Megaman can do in one attack, with him knowing that this sneak attack will be the only one he gets?

The key on Batman is that he is "aware" so it's definitely the "good for Batman" interpretation

I may agree for cleaning up the wording. Like "fighters defeated in this match will not be permanently killed after the fight's conclusion no matter how much lethal force was used on them, and Batman is aware of this" but it's pretty clunky to say it that way even if intent becomes more clear.

so I was initially excited for Batman's debut in mercs, but Arkham Batman specifically seems...not impressive at all?

he just seems like an ordinary dude punching people. 2/day combat worth max. Lloyd Irving would destroy this dude in a 1v1. is there something I'm missing?

I mean, that video is from Arkham Origins, which the earliest we see this version of Batman. I think an Arkham Knight video would be a bit more instructive of his power here (not that I have one handy, just saying)

That's kinda Batman's whole thing, plus a bunch of gadgets, and yet he still Just Wins even against very powerful enemies

Batman is peak human but will job to most 3/days tbqh

He's great for tactics but would get absolutely bodied by most on this field

Yeah Batman gets destroyed on neutral-nondescript, not really a surprise, he's got to be in situations where he gets to play dirty. Nobody's saying he's going to 1v1 Lloyd Irving on an empty field and if they do I will laugh them out of the room.

Not only is that from the first game in the timeline chronologically, we actually have a much more fitting showing from later against that same foe.

Check the start for a bit (like, 30-40 seconds? Just until he gets to the penitentiary) to see how he plays with the Batmobile and the kind of mobility he has and then skip to 17:25. He takes on a far more mutated version of Killer Croc who was so strong he singlehandedly crashed the aerial penitentiary he's in and brought it down into the ocean and absolutely dances circles around him. And sure he has Nightwing with him but I truly don't think that's a demerit, since it showcases how easily and smoothly he can play with others. Helps that the player is also better at the game in general, too. The rest of the vid has some showcases of Batman's toolkit (an instance I saw was using explosive gel mid fight to detonate it and send goons flying) but the bossfight feels relevant for how Batman crushes foes who outparameter him in every way bar skill.

Oof, I haven't got time to do an entire breakdown cuz of work, (weekend voting sucks for me) but I'm going with Team Zeratul-Shuts-Down-Batwarp here.

fwiw i believe in shroedinger's sneak attack I just don't think it's gonna do enough to swing the fight. I did have a funny thought about Batman convincing Rock to suicide a minute into the match so that the Sneak Attack happens more cleanly and no arguments about bouncing corpses can be made though.

I do think Batman does a lot here. I totally buy the Batmobile as an effective transit around (like my guy is smashing through pillars and can jet boost to recorrect itself, it'll be fine) and Bats has the effective technology to do some real damage - from the shock gauntlets to putting explosive gel on his fist and punching, he has enough raw force to disorient and disable pretty much anyone here except Zeratul.

... and that's about where it ends as I don't think the raw firepower exists for Team Bats to take this. If Batman could provide openings for Mega Man to deliver finishing blows, I think that's more than fine, but the ability to do so in the time frame that Mega Man has is VERY limited. Quite frankly, I don't think Bats manages to get through Cloud without support - I don't think Cloud exactly scales to Zack in tenacity or anything, but I can't imagine him not being scrappy and getting taken down instantly by a sneak attack. And that's before factoring in Zeratul just passively removing Batman's best aspect of being able to strike from the shadows and immediately retreat. Do I think Mega Man gets off the sneak attack? Yes, absolutely. I think he's a corpse, though, and already has lost the fight while doing so. Like a killswitch being flipped.

I'd detail more but my shift started like three minutes ago, so just dropping a vote for Vivi and his Invisible Friend, I don't think Mega gets as much as is necessary before he goes down and I don't think any individual member of Vivi's team is gonna fall before then.
