By the time DC bought them, Mar-vell, the original captain marvel in 616 had already been created. Then DC lost the rights to the name because they suck at rights management. I don't think DC ever lost the rights to call Billy Batson's super alter-ego Captain Marvel, but they did lose the ability to actually call the comic books that. Eventually they fed up of working around the name and just changed the character's name to align with the comic's branding. --- *Gheb is my other account* ... Copied to Clipboard!
