White noise also works. It also prevents an alternative option if you can't sleep, something you should be prepared for on a flight.

It is 2023 so if you don't have noise cancelling headphones for flights then that's mostly on you at this point. You face this reality every time you get on a plane.

Flip side is, even the best noise cancelling headphones of all time can't drown out crying babies.

The actual answer though is, stop bringing your fucking babies on planes.

The "get your kid to stop crying/learn to calm down your kid/don't take your kids out in public" crowd obviously don't have kids and know nothing about having kids.

Sometimes kids just cry. Especially young toddlers can be difficult to calm down. They are too old to calm down by rocking and shushing, but too young to sit down and have a conversation where they'll understand anything fully. They don't fully understand their feelings and how to handle them. It's called terrible twos for a reason.

Again, I doubt most parents literally don't do anything to try to calm their toddlers. Sometimes there really isn't much you can do.

Babies cry on airplanes because the pressure in their ear can become incredibly painful. I'm not a parent and even I know that. I fucking hate parents that just let their babies cry on a plane without trying to soothe them.

That's an absurd statement to make. What are you expecting the parents to do? Chloroform their baby, maybe slip some vallium in the formula? It's a baby, they cry, sometimes uncontrollably and ultimately there is very little a parent can do about it. It isn't a sign that the parent doesn't care. And travel isn't a movie theater, it's not like they can just hire a sitter for the kid and leave it at home.

What is narcissistic is a grown ass adult expecting a baby to stop crying on demand because it annoys them. Throwing a fit about a baby is a step beyond that entirely. And you can tell it's absurd because everyone else in that video is just trying to stifle their laughter at this dude having a fit.

They do feel bad. They don't owe you an apology. It isn't complicated.

Depends on how old the kid is. If its a little baby, not much you can do and hopefully the parents will at least make an attempt in calming the baby.

If its a kid however, fuck that. They should have been taught to behave.

If a child is inconsolable, there's not much the parents can do.

If the parents aren't even trying to console the child, that's a pretty asshole thing to do and means they're shitty parents.

it was half in jest but i don't think my suggestion restricts anyone from flights -- you would still have standard flights but you could also opt into a quiet flight

like they could even lean into the idea and make parents flights and offer more amenities for kids and babies

If the disturbance gets to an extreme level, even if it is a child, the airline can take further actions such as diverting the flight to remove the disruption.

As a side note, my last flight had a crying baby, and eventually one of the stewardesses asked if she could carry the baby to soothe it, walked it up and down the plane and seemed to help.

Then people clapped. That didn't really help.

This is why I generally stay at home. I can't stand kids and I can't control selfish parent into not taking their kids out and exposing me to that. Only thing I can control is myself and so I stay out of it. I try to have going out be as minimal as possible. I even order my groceries online. I absolutely despise kids.

My sinus is all fucked up and every time I fly I feel like crying the whole time like babies do, so I generally feel bad for them since they really cant help it or take anything if their head hurts.

But when buying flights you just have to accept it going to suck for one reason or another, that's just a fact unless you're rich.

just put all the passengers with babies at the back or front of the plane together. at least the noise will be from one area and people further away will get less of it. unfortunate for those closer to the babies though. maybe the baby area can have noise dampening walls or something

That seems like an over reaction to something that is probably very unlikely to happen that often.
How often do you think people find themselves in this sort of situation? I'm 37 and think I've had two instances in my entire life with a kid who wouldn't stop crying and only one of those was a situation I wasn't able to excuse myself. One instance over 37 years.

Imagine locking yourself away because you would have to experience that maybe twice in your entire life lmao.

Having been on planes with crying children the entire flight, I understand his anger. But he shouldnt have caused a scene like that.

I hate when parents just let their kids cry on airplanes like this. Either dont bring them with you or learn how to calm them down.

At the end of the day it's a part of flying. I had a baby cry right behind me the entire way from Portland Oregon to Atlanta. It sucked but it is what it is. invest in some good noise-canceling headphones and hope for the best.

People sometimes need to travel by air with their baby. And just because it's crying doesn't mean it's a shitty kid with a shitty parent. My ears sometimes pop to the point that it's painful while flying. if this happens to a baby it's gonna cry. Trust me, the parent(s) aren't happy about it either. It's definitely not an excuse for a grown man to act just as obnoxiously

Now if it's one of those cases where parents let their kids treat the plane like a jungle gym and blatantly annoy other passengers without intervening, yeah, fuck those people.

The guy took it too far, but I can understand being frustrated. A crying baby can really get to you. Before my son was born, I had so many people warn me about recognizing when I need to take a step back from the baby. Because Shaken baby syndrome happens all the time. And that's basically when a frustrated parent shakes their baby because they don't stop crying, potentially causing brain damage.

I'm not even talking about the most extreme cases. I just simply do not like kids period. I can't stand hearing them even in passing. That is why I stay at home. I am also 37 and would like to enjoy myself. I'm in control of my own environment. And that is simply not something I want to see nor hear.
