Babies/toddlers cry because they don't know how to handle their emotions.

Yes it sucks there's a crying baby on a plane, but I doubt the parents weren't doing anything to try to calm down their kid.

airplanes need to have a sound proof booth for situations like this. it's blatantly unfair to every single passenger on the plane to have a kid crying like that.

In a fair and just world no it is not but we live in a society where a lot of people don't think they're doing anything wrong. Asking a parent to calm their own children down will prolly get them to outrage at you. It's unfortunate but I personally would not want to risk a scene. I'll just take the beating from the baby crying.

And then I rationalize it with "I'm only gonna have to deal with that crying baby for a few hours. Those parents gonna have to deal with that bullshit for the rest of their lives". I feel better about myself.

I think a pair of noise-canceling headphones per seat should be a feature of every passenger plane, specifically for insufferable times like this.

Sometimes there's not a single thing you can do about it. I don't really get people who act like parents should be able to 100% control everything their child does, that's not really how humans work at all

Plus like its a baby so realistically if they didnt bring it that would be very questionable parenting.

The last time I was on a flight with a crying baby it was a cross country red eye. I could probably have just dealt with the crying, but it sounded like the baby also had a pretty nasty flu or covid and so rather than a regular cry it had this anguished, miserable moaning gurgle cry that sounded more like the baby was dying than it was upset.

This. Have a chair for the parent to sit in and maybe a small crib/cot for the baby/child to lie down on. Most people shouldn't have to be miserable, especially when a flight is already miserable enough, just because some parents decided to have children. It's bad enough when people bring their babies/small children to restaurants and movie theaters.

Absolutely zero justification. Babies cry. And sometimes, babies have to fly. Sleeping pills and earplugs. I hope the guy is banned from future flights.

I talked about my experience with this happening. The parents did nothing to try and get him to stop crying at all. Saying hes expressing himself is no reason to make other passengers suffer through it for hours.

Some parents simply dont care about how their unruly children affects others. Ive seen this a lot when shopping where they let their children go crazy through the aisles and bother shoppers. But if you dare complain about it, then youre the bad person.

Sounds like these parents were innocent and you didn't do enough to prep for your flight.

Doing some minimal research, the airlines are supposed to help the parents console the child if they are indeed being disruptive by offering toys or snacks to help distract the baby. I wonder if that attempt was ever made.

Depending on the age and other issues, sometimes there is nothing you can do to calm them down. Learning has nothing to do with it.

Im not bringing my kids on a plane until I know theyre old enough to be quiet, but not everyone can do that.

This dude needs to fucking learn to deal with it. Babies don't have an off switch and flights are generally not optional deals where you can leave the baby with a babysitter like it's a restaurant or a movie theater. Like I can't imagine the parents are loving having their baby cry for 40+ minutes either. It's just as annoying for them in addition to being incredibly embarrassing.

And yes, planes probably should have better facilities to handle emotionally distressed small children, but they don't. So until then, you just gotta accept that some functions in public are gonna run the risk of having crying small children. If that's such a bother, bring some noise canceling headphones.

I am extremely neurosensitive to noisy environments and yet I'm still fucking fine on planes because I actually prepare and take care of myself. Even when there's a crying baby.

This asshole and the people supporting him need to do the same thing. Expect annoyance and pack accordingly.

The parents saying that hes expressing himself is a stupid justification for doing nothing to stop the crying. Again, it was bothering the entire plane not just me.

Get earbuds and put on music. Especially noise canceling.
