The penultimate main event of the regular season pits the nearly unkillable Black Dragon against the undefeated, dominant, and polarizing Riptide. Black Dragon has never once been knocked out in any of its 24 official fights, one shy of tying the legendary Bite Force for the longest streak in BattleBots history. Can Riptide be the bot to end the streak and put it down for the count? We'll find out tonight. As a reminder, please put any discussion of match results under spoiler tags until 24 hours after the episode airs out of consideration for people who can't watch the episode live, especially if you decide to watch the episode early on Discovery+ before it airs on TV. Showtime is about an hour away.

Okay, now that I'm done with the obligation of being calm and professional in the opening post: Fuck Riptide and fuck the team's loudmouth piece of shit captain, I hope Black Dragon tears Riptide to shreds.

Huge and Starchild is going to either a boring three minute pushing bout or it is going to be a cluster...

Got to be honest this line up seems meh. At least we got a beast in next week with Minotaur vs Witch Doctor.

I think Starchild vs Huge is gonna be a bloodbath. Huge actually has a weapon, one that can reasonably hit Starchild's body. I won't be shocked if it gets cut in half.

Yeah, that fight sounds like a meme in the making. Ominous vs. Shatter being a battle of bots that both have omni-directional drive sounds meme-worthy too. We're getting a kaiju battle and a ballet battle in the first two fights.

Bloodsport vs. Beta and Valkyrie vs. (if it actually works decently) Glitch could be pretty good, competitive fights.

Starchild vs. Huge was as ridiculous as I expected with Huge absolutely mauling Starchild to finish 4-0 on the season, and unfortunately Ominous vs. Shatter was just "meh". I'm happy for for Shatter for getting a win to avoid going winless, but I'm not sure they make the tournament.

3-1 Beta after a dominant win over Bloodsport. Seeing a hammer bot with John Reid on the sticks doing well always makes me smile.

Mammoth controlled Kraken to a win and Glitch had more mobility issues so Valkyrie took it down. Two "meh" fights, and I really think Glitch need to go back to the drawing board. Their bot is plagued with mobility issues at this point.

One more preemptive FUCK RIPTIDE before the main event.

Well, fuck. Riptide ends the streak by KO'ing Black Dragon in brutal fashion. At least Ethan was actually sportsmanlike this time. He didn't attack Black Dragon after it was immobile, and he didn't act like an asshole in the post-fight interview either. It's something, I guess.

That HUGE vs Starchild fight was awesome, fight of the night imo. I'm sure I'm not the only one that was disappointed Riptide got the win.

Sad there's only 1 week of regular season left. Do we know if there's anything after the tournament this year?

I'm pretty sure has been announced yet. They might have taped some sort of summer series at the same taping session like they did last year with the Golden Bolt tournament, but we don't know yet, and I'm pretty sure anyone who does know would be under a NDA.

Back Dragon made basically the same mistake Copperhead did last week, didn't stay squared up with their opponent and one of their corners got caught by the opponent's weapon, from there it's just all downhill. Doesn't mater how strong or durable your bot is if you make a driving error that costs you the fight.

Honestly, don't think any of the 1-3 bots deserve to make it in from last night. None of them have all too impressive resumes. Mammoth has an unimpressive 2-2 record itself, but I could see legacy helping them out in getting a very, very high seed, if not, the worst seed.

I personally think Riptide is going to be the #2 seed. Don't think they'll be able to earn #1, as I think whoever wins between Witch Doctor and Minotaur is a shoo-in for that placement. Really, really excited to see that match next week.

Here's to hoping Glitch can figure itself out, as this was a very disappointing season for sure this year for that bot. Was really looking forward to it this season.

Underwhelming episode...

Omnious, Horizon, and Glitch are terrible bots. Triton is on the fence since it has not really shown its true potential.

Starchild looked like Anakin at the end of Episode III.

I dunno, I liked the first and last fights in the episode. Huge went ham.

After next week's matches are done the actual brackets for the tournament should get revealed and the 'junk bots' should be mostly weeded out.

Don't know if they're going to televise it in any way, but for a few weeks in summer, the Vegas show Destruct-o-thon is going to rebrand as Proving Grounds, where new builders will get to audition for the next tournament going against actual bots and teams, not just the "showbot" pinch-hitters.

That would be really cool to see as a summer/fall series between main seasons.
