In 16 years Jon Stewart kick started at least a dozen good careers in Hollywood. Did Trevor Noah elevate anyone in his 8 years as host?

So why is that? I stopped watching with Noah but I heard everyone was generally happy with his ratings. It still seems like a show where wacky personalities could shine.

No because he was lame and so were the writers.

Was it really Jon Stewart doing that? Weren't a lot of his guests from SNL?

SNL is like the most major pipeline from nobody to stardom in the country.

In Living Color did it with their original cast but they weren't able to get good replacements where as SNL keeps managing to find new talent.

I thought the daily show created most of them, but a list I just read included Olivia Munn as someone Jon created, but she was already popular from that video gaming show. So that made me question some others.

Some of them started on SNL. The only one I remember as a cast member of SNL and correspondent on TDS was Nancy Walls. I don't really know what she's done since then but I know she married Steve Carrell.

I think it was mostly Stewart. Before he hosted, Craig Kilborn did and he only had 4 correspondents the entire time he was there iirc. Only one of them became very successful, and that one was the only 1 of those 4 to stay on when Stewart took over. That would be Colbert. I didn't really watch it toward the end of the Stewart years, but a lot of the earlier correspondents became highly successful afterward (Ed Helms, Carrell, Rob Riggle, Rob Cordrey, just off the top of my head).

You cant forget John Oliver. His show is the one winning the Emmys that the Daily Show used to under Stewart.

I imagine no one watched it after Stewart left so there isn't much opportunity.

As much as I love Trevor, John Oliver is way better at it than he is and he's almost as good as Jon Stewart.

Noah said that Trump fulfilled all his campaign promises so he can fuck right off with that noise.

yeah that's right. I think he started right around when I stopped watching regularly, but I do remember him on it. I'm pretty sure I read that Kristen Schall(sp?) got her start there too but that would have been later on.

Shows like this aren't as important or broadly watched as they were 20 years ago. Talk shows are in a similar situation.

Talk show was nuts from 80s to early 90s. Arsenio, Ricki Lake, Springer, Letterman, etc. Shit was fucking everywhere and impossible to avoid.

Roy Wood Jr. really made good use of his time on the Daily Show under Trevor Noah
