I have been in my new house for almost a year and it doesn't feel like home. It just feels like a place where I keep my stuff and take naps. I my apartment that I had before this home that I lost in Covid now that felt like a home. My parents house feels like a home, even by brother's house who I spend Thanksgiving and Christmas at fells more like a home. I know it is odd because I can't quantify this feeling. It just odd.

You probably dont have any real memories there? The other places you listed seemed to be where family was.

And were you forced into the home? You said you lost your apartment prior.

Naw it is nice house I picked it out. Got a better job , had saving, and got it. After it is a track home something that I never wanted. And they took away a lot of my back yard after I signed up for the lot. So I don't have that. I don't use by back yard but that really irks me.

My last rental of 8 years felt like I was still in the Army barracks waiting to find a way out. I know the feeling. That's changed finally.

I moved about eight months ago and my new place didn't start to feel like home until I put out a lot of my personal items. Things like posters, figurines, etc. That helped tremendously and it's what's always worked for me. My previous apartment felt like home not long after I moved in and still felt like home the day I moved out (even though some extremely traumatic stuff had happened to me there). My college apartment (a super ratchet place with solid concrete walls) almost immediately felt like home, but that's because I was nineteen and thrilled to be living on my own for the first time. The house I grew up in stopped feeling like "home" around that time and, even when I visit and step into my old room, it feels alien now.

Of course, I've always been a hyper-independent person and have thrived off making my space my own. If you're not a turbo-loner who's semi-estranged from his family like me, I can see why you'd view the places where your family is as "home" more than the place you sleep.
