Effort shouldn't end in the start of a marriage. Your woman will be so ambitious to nurture you and take care of you and do things for you, and do cute things like pack lunch and leave you little love notes; when you give that same ambition to help her and take care of her. You wonder why we are bitchy, naggy, or cranky, you wonder why we gain weight so quickly. It's not because we got comfortable. We got fucking stressed out from taking care of a man child and stress packs on the weight.

Seems like good advice for people who jump into marriage (which is still a lot of people I think)

I would assume that that either:

a) They didn't move in together until after getting married. It's less common with millennials, but that's how "traditional" relationships were. No cohabitation before marriage.

b) He used to do those things until they got married. After that he felt like he didn't need to try as hard anymore, because they're past the early stages of the relationship.
