Because the ST was so bad. Imagine hating the ST so much that it makes you think the PT is now good. It's similar to seeing people hate DBS so damn much that now they think DBGT is now good. Should be a label for this kinda behavior so I can shame them properly.

I have always liked the PT. At least it tried to expand on it and keep a cohesive story. The sequel trilogy just looks pretty.

In 2040 people will say ST is good too when they release the next generation trilogy.

The PT had a lot going for it, the story as an idea wasn't bad (just poorly executed), the effects were good (for the time), and the casting was excellent. It needed better dialogue and someone to tell George "No" once in a while. It was like a sports dream team where the pieces were all there but the coach sucked and the whole season ended up disappointing.

Having said that I view it through coke bottle thick nostalgia glasses as I was 10 when TPM came out and was exactly the target audience for that series.

The bar keeps getting lower and lower in SW that mediocrity is overlooked and the mere sight of a lightsaber is enough cause for jubilation.

Peak cult shit.

My only consolation is that, eventually, the current generation who grew up with the PT and actually thinks it's good will have to deal with the hair-pulling frustration of the next generation growing up with the ST and claiming it to be good.

The prequel trilogy was coherent and consistent with the story it was trying to tell.

The sequel trilogy was inconsistent and disorienting from start to finish with no clear idea what story it was trying to tell. Every one picked up on that and they appreciate the PT because it at least told a complete story.

I always liked the PT, but I was 7 when TPM came out. I dont really have a way of taking the nostalgia glasses off other than to say I know they have flaws, but I love them anyways. I view the ST much in the same way, minus the nostalgia. There are things to like and enjoy about each of them, but they have their flaws as well.

I DID say it before the ST existed.

The PT are bad on their own, but the supplemental stuff around it, like TCW, really elevate them.

That's why Disney is currently trying to do the sake thing for the ST, with Mandalorian, Ahsoka, etc all clearly leading into TFA. The key difference is that it's not working, because people are just enjoying the shows and still dumping on the movies they're gonna be connected to.

I probably wouldn't be saying it as much because I don't feel like arguing. If I see a bunch of people ripping on PT, I just stay out of it. But I always enjoyed PT and used to rewatch them regularly when I had time.

CEmen in here throwing out 'coherent' as the PT's redeeming quality with all the same energy as Aladdin blurting out 'punctual' when he's trying to woo Jasmine.

I'm now picturing a CEman watching AotC with his eyes glued to the screen exclaiming "omfg I'm getting chills, I can't get over how coherent this movie is!"

I also will say I think TFA is a decent movie. Nothing amazing and I get the hate on it for being a rehash of ANH (though I don't care, it's a good story).

I feel like people were hoping they'd disregard the ST and either never visit them again or even retcon them eventually. Connecting other shows to them destroys that hope.

I mean, I still say the PT was doodoo.

It's just that, even if it was a bad plan, it at least had a plan whereas the ST was written by the ass. So yeah, it has that over it.

These are my thoughts exactly.

I grew up with the PT, so it has nostalgia going for it. I never enjoyed the OT and found it boring, but I had no nostalgia for it when I saw it for the first time. The PT soundtrack and lightsabor duels are what won me over for it. Also pod racing. I just wasn't into Star Wars enough to get into arguments about why PT was so great like OT fans like to do.

Couldn't say I enjoyed the ST. Even the lightsabor duels were pretty boring.

i didnt like OT until the theatrical rerelease. there is something magical and euphoric seeing those movies in theaters, even with the badly done new scenes they added in. as soon as new hope ended i went home and rewatched it the first time, it just "clicked" for me seeing it in theaters

It really is! I'm definitely getting the sequel. My friend is a huge gamer who never finishes any games despite saying he really liked them. He usually puts about 3-5 hours into a game then goes to the next one. Jedi: Fallen Order is one of the rare games he loved so much he actually finished it.

TPM is ok.
Attack of the Clones is borderline unwatchable.
Revenge of the Sith is kinda good.

Movies are meant to be watched. If you're judging a movie by the media surrounding it, you're not judging the movie. Attack of the Clones is a crime against cinema and anyone praising it just shows how detached from reality Star Wars fans are.

What annoys me is the opposite. People who like a movie after they first see it, but then they find out that everyone else hates it so they act like they always hated it. I saw a lot of this with the prequels when they came out. A couple of my friends did this more recently with Rise of Skywalker and Thor: L&T (I enjoyed Thor L&T btw).

The sequel trilogy could have been good if it was either J. J. Abrams or Rian Johnson making all three, but swapping between them resulted in an incoherent mess because the two of them had very different visions.

Regarding the prequel trilogy, the overall plot was fine and it had some cool moments, which can result in someone looking back and thinking they were good because the issues didnt stick around in their memory.

The st is eventually the second part of an endless waltz. They're nearly identical to the ot in terms of underlying plot so they become more consistent when you realize they're essentially the same plots in the same order. While the pt isn't great it did try something new even if it was poorly executed/written and connected heavily with 2000s era politics in the US
