The Nika fruit has a will of its own as well, or at least that's that the Gorosei theorize as one of the reasons the WG can never get a hold of it. I could buy that, even IF eating a devil fruit made you learn what it did, that the Nika fruit is special enough that it could actually lie if it/Nika/JoyBoy felt like that was the best thing to do

I thought it was clear that he IS a rubber man. His powers are rubber based. It's only that instead of a rubber man, he's a rubber god Zoan. So there's nothing wrong with his powers outside of G5.

It intersects with so many aspects of the plot we don't know about yet that it's just too speculative. But I got my eye on it. I am the retcon investigator. Just wait till its all done

He also gains toon force/the power of imagination. Which is why Gear 3 and gear 2 do as much as they do.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury - A solid enough experience, but I ended up liking S1 a fair amount more than S2. For me, there's only one really great thing about the show, other than the production, and that's Suletta. She's an awesome character who shines every moment she's on screen and exists to do the unpredictable. When she's not around the show's just not that interesting. The political stuff is fine, but it's pretty half-baked. Miorine isn't that interesting when she's away from Suletta. Guel at least gets a good character arc, so that's something. I'd also say the cast is too big in general. They should've cut a few of those characters to focus more on the important ones. The Elans in particular stick out in this regard, as well as Shaddiq and his girls. S2 could've been better if it had more Suletta.

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 - Fine show in general. Not the season's top romcom, but not a bad one. The main two characters are fun, and the side cast is good as well. Some people dislike Yamada apparently, but I enjoy his lack of social abilities.

Heavenly Delusion - Speaking of good production values! What a great looking show. The action's fantastic, and even non-action scenes look excellent. I'm glad that it's mostly less depressing than the average post-apocalyptic story, since I don't enjoy that type of setting in general. The two parallel stories are quite interesting, even though the "twist" in one of them is pretty obvious. The show does suffer from ending in an awkward spot, though. Especially the storyline with the kids - it just stops right in the middle of things. Would watch an S2, though apparently there's not enough source material for one yet.

KamiKatsu: Working for God in a Godless World - The first few episodes of this are pretty creative. It's a wild ride thanks in part to the awful animation making things hilarious, and every episode seems to have a different twist. The characters all work together well, and the MC doesn't have it quite as easy as a lot of isekai MCs do. Unfortunately, it gets a bit more tropey after that and doesn't quite recapture its original glory. The MC becomes less interesting when he just does the same thing every arc, and the other characters introduced early on don't really evolve in any way either. Still enjoyable overall at least, and a fine choice for my dip into the isekai bucket of the season.

Finally starting the season with Mushoku Tensei 2.

Pretty drastic character redesign for them to suddenly turn Sylphie into Mao from Code Geass in the first 6 minutes here.

Season 1 of Misfit of Demon Academy beat

6/10. Some episodes were nice and hit the right beats, but otherwise just fluffy and mostly 'ok'

I will probably watch season 2 at some juncture, it was worthwhile but not anything to gush over at any point.

It being published by Crunchyroll is the biggest red flag for it.

Finished rewatching Soul Eater NOT. It's cuter than I remember (loved Anya and Jackie) but also uglier. I wasn't as impressed by the fight in episode 1, which is the best fight in the series, and the characters just look off a lot of the time. It's not abysmal, but it is distracting, and I don't think I've seen a worse looking Bones show. Doesn't look like there is anything I need to catch up on for next season, so I'll probably rewatch Soul Eater proper next

Brief mentions on more Spring 2023 shows I wrapped up...

Hell's Paradise - solid action and characters, interesting setting, way too much introspection during combat. Looking forward to S2

Mashle - I enjoyed it, but for the wrong reason. Comedy wise, I laughed at the magic writing, Mash's potion, and the quiditch rip-off, but I found the show largely unfunny. However, I thought Mash was really cool. Not sure I'll watch S2, though.

Otaku Elf - Very pretty, but it doesn't really move. Very nice, heartwarming moments, but the comedy mostly missed, and the history was pretty uninteresting.

I don't know how MHA Fandom is reacting to these last few chapters but I'm eating this shit up.

I really don't like the Toga/Ochaka fight and find a lot of the fight panels in this arc to be way too busy.

I'm honestly just hoping it ends soon at this point.

I can't believe people think it's good sometimes but I've thought that way for a while now.

This is the only part I've cared about for a loooooong time, but that's just because I love Togaraka and I'm shipper trash.

Overall I definitely do not care about MHA anymore, but it's....easy (??) so I haven't outright dropped it.

Seeing the new Sarada design on my timeline is the first time anything in Naruto has made me go "oh rad" since pre-Shippuden NGL.

I finished A Lull in the Sea. I don't say this much anymore, but holy crap; that was amazing from beginning to end. Everything about it (multiple branching romance options, the sea lore/world building, the music and visuals) was just top notch. I'm going to have a hard time finding something as good now, cause it just stuck the landing so hard. It's possibly a top 10 show for me now. I wouldn't have thought that even 3-5 episodes in, but I'd be hard pressed to find many shows like it.

Now the inevitable "What the fuck can follow that" search begins.

I watched one episode of A Lull in the Sea years ago and, while I no longer remember anything about it, it didn't grab me at the time. It sounds like I should give it another chance, though! That's pretty high praise

Yeaaaaah I bounced unfortunately. Me an PA Works weren't seeing eye to eye at that time.

I remember it pretty fondly, a really strong drama series. I should get back to my rewatch of it at some point, I got distracted but it's still good stuff.

Naw they've been killing it since 2022. Ya Boy Konming, Maid Wars, Buddy Daddies, Skip and Loafer. PA Works redemption arc.

Well before all that then they had quite a long stretch of bad shows

I know some people like Appare Ranman but I never saw it. There was The Eccentric Family 2 but that's a sequel.

....Sakura Quest probably the last new show I'd give a thumbs up for before last year? That was 2017.

I didnt care for Shirobako either. Such a falsely advertised anime making it look like cute girls making anime together only for it to be a LOT of a bunch of other characters talking about anime stuff and the main girls hardly being a group at all. I think I lasted like 6-9 episodes before I dropped it

Iroduku from 2018 remains my favorite PA Works anime by far. Aquatope was a pretty special show too, but the second half has some problems.

I like both of those way more than a lot of their more recent stuff. Buddy Daddies was meh and Akiba Maid Wars sucked.

Iroduku I dropped after 4 episodes when it was airing. I think I just can't watch that type of show anymore, and for a while that's the only kind of show PA Works was doing.

I got REALLY burned out by The Day I Became a God, too. That's probably why I was so down on PA Works until Ya Boy came back to shine his glow upon me.

Nagi no Asukara/A Lull in the Sea was definitely a show I liked a lot. Drama was good and it's got a really cool and memorable setting.

Just read the first 2 chapters of the new series Wild Strawberry that started in Jump last week.

It's always funny to me when you read a manga and realize the creator almost certainly has a studio in mind for an anime one day, because reading this the entire time all I could think of was that Mappa was gonna eat this up.

Can't read OPM manga version anymore. The wonky release schedule where they keep re-releasing and editing old chapters for some reason, even changing events entirely, is just a major turnoff. Feels more like an experimental project than an actual manga. Maybe when it's all done and they swear they won't touch it again I'll go back over it.

I do need to catch up on the webcomic, though.
