Somehow caffeine stands alone as the one globally acceptable addiciton

It's a pretty simple question. If you drink it every day you WILL experience withdrawal because it is an addictive substance.

I quit that crap about 4 years ago.

I no longer wake up tired (because that's actually just withdrawal most of the time)

I no longer slump in the afternoon (also withdrawal)

I sleep like a baby because I don't constantly flood my body with stimulants.

I'm telling you, that shit is not the help everyone seems to think it is. It's just another crutch, and the more you use it, the more you need it.

I've never even really found that caffeine does much to me. I need to either be catastrophically tired or have a ton of it to really notice a difference, and even then it's only coffee that has enough to have an effect. Chocolate, caffeinated pops, and teas never seem to do anything, so I guess I'm just innately unresponsive to it. Either way, it's very rare that I drink coffee at all, so I don't think there's any room to consider me addicted to it.

Honestly salt has the same problem as sugar. Both have valid purposes in cooking unlike caffeine, which would make them harder to qualify what a vice is, but the modern food industry has people trained to complain if the meals aren't overloaded with both of them. It's annoying how many high quality restaurants I've ate at and thought this food would be so much better if the salt wasn't dominating the other flavors (I swear I'm one of the few people that exist that doesn't like the flavor of salt...not particularly fond of overly sweet flavors either).

In both cases, it's something where your tastes depend a lot on what you're used to. Americans have actually evolved a greater collective preference for sweeter foods than other populations, just because so much of their diet is sweetened (and that preference leads to a demand for more sweetening). If you tend not to put much salt or sugar in your food at home, eating out pretty much anywhere is going to be a bit overwhelming in that regard because they're catering to the tastes of the public. I also tend to under-salt my food compared to what many others are used to, so I get where you're coming from.

It's hardly the only one. Doubly so if you count behavioral addictions (which are just as valid because they can be just as crippling).

Hell, most of the people on PotD are suffering from one of the most common behavioral addictions of the modern era.

I quit caffeine cause I'm addicted to it.
I got too much anxiety from it though I love it so.
I'll allow myself to have it if it's like the only option at someone's house (besides water) or I'm sharing a drink with my lady.

I drink boat loads of juice and decaf tea to compensate. I'm sure my decaf tea has traces but it's not like...a healthy issue so I'm not worried.

Depends on the chocolate and how much you eat. Dark chocolate has about 12 mg of caffeine per oz, so a 4 oz bar contains about 48 mg, and extra-dark bars can go even higher. By comparison, an 8 oz cup of coffee has around 95 mg. People are generally more likely to drink 8 oz of coffee in a single sitting than eat a whole 4 oz bar of chocolate, but if you're seriously trying to cut down on caffeine intake then you should at least be aware of what's in chocolate, even if you don't outright avoid it.
