It could very well be the best decision to get rid of the board entirely and just focus on games or whatever but give us the courtesy of a heads up at least

Yeah it feels to me like they're catering to the maga troll crowd who were tired of getting called out for constantly getting banned and creating new accounts

If they were "politically neutral" then they would have gotten rid of the right-leaning CE too, which was always kind of a sister board to Politics. Their goal here is pretty much the same as any other rich company buying up the media, to only get rid of one side of the discussion.

Like, this isn't to overstate what happened, these boards have been dying for quite a while anyways and political discussion here is largely irrelevant. But their strategy remains the same even in irrelevant parts of the internet like this.

I mean, the irony here is now CE is just going to get spammed with a lot of the former politics users, so they'll eventually have to ban that too in order to satisfy their ideology.

My theory is, someone posted some bad thing, and it got archived. But then some banned 261 users on reddit/discord took that post, and tried to karen things up to new management. (Not necessarily dtoast)

Someone in charge fell for it, and 261 got closed.

I still don't see how politics was that toxic. It was no more toxic than CE and certainly less toxic than many game and system boards. I feel like most people are just mad at it because it constantly shit on and exposed awful Republican/conservative behavior. There was plenty of good stuff too like the Ukraine war topic that has been mentioned.

its pretty easy to see this move as not being apolitical but being a political choice in its own right. The people in charge dont want a specific kind of political discussion happening on their site

Subreddits usually have the rule of "be civil", so you usually don't have these types of freakouts and meltdowns unless it's a really garbage sub.
