There are definitely white collar people who ignore that their desired lifestyle is supported by people who don't have the option of staying at home.

But that complaint rings hollow from the richest man in the world demanding his workers come back to the office.

It is. Ive been working 60-70 for the past 6 months. My boss works 70-80 and their boss works 80-90 easy.

im not advocating for it or anything but when I think crazy working hours you have to be above 80 imo. My old CEO would go through all the news on healthcare in the morning and send out like 5-6 pages of notes/thoughts on all the articles before coming to the office for example.

If Jack Ma is really only pulling ~70 a week Im gonna be pretty surprised and disappointed tbh.

I would be a lot more sympathetic to the return to office claims... if it was based on evidence or claims. Like just provide the data. Instead I keep seeing bosses going "I feel they're less productive" and "I think they're not doing as much". Or "i can't manage effectively". Fuck it. Provide the metrics then. You should have them and know exactly who is being efficient and who isn't.

Comcast even pulled the "our workers are just as efficient, but uh, back to office now!"

But nah we get little off that. I rather they just admit they're pissed labor got one over on them and they're working on clawing it back because it's a benefit they did not intend to give. For most of the "laptop class", sitting in traffic to go sit in another building to do the same damn work is just a waste of time for everyone involved. Hell for people I know, the company is actually losing hours (instead of sitting in traffic, they'd work).

They don't have that data because it doesn't exist.

These are people who live in the office. They want the pointless meetings, lunch room catch ups and after office drinks. Their workplace is their social life and a lot of their job has no reason to exist without the office.

My bf works from home and does like maybe 15-20 minutes of actual work because that's how long it actually takes. He said when he had to go into the office the stuff he had to do took longer because of all the people coming over to talk or all the meetings that took time away from him doing the stuff he needed to. Now he just gets all of it done in the morning and then goes to whatever meetings he has scheduled. If anything him working from home improved his productivity instead of reduced it. I won't say that it's like that for everyone though. Some totally abuse the privilege and for them it should be taken away at least until they can make sure they actually do what they need to be doing.

Musk is not interested in removing class distinctions, but preserving them.

He already has the blue collar workers where he wants them. Last thing he wants is for the white collar workers to be outside of his direct supervision.

As you would expect, his statement is an attempt to preserve the control of the owner class, poorly disguised as an appeal to a subset of workers. The right have been trying that on for a while now.

Studies show that those who work from home are more productive, so that most certainly is not the reason.
