Honestly, I think the main thing that works in BotW/TotK's facor for those that like it is the open world is just one giant toy box, and it's what sets it apart from the more story/collectible focused open world games we're used to...and while the toy box isn't for me, I understand the draw It's not that other open world games can't go with the toy box feel, but just that they won't, as most are from developers who lean more towards story and progression...or are Ubisoft --- "The starting point is of the utmost importance" ... Most are just too intimidated by that type of design I think. Same reason others won't make stuff like GTA or Elder Scrolls. Most are focused on developing content for you to complete. The thought of designing a sandbox where the player can make their own fun requires a skill and way of thinking I don't think a lot of AAA developers can wrap their head around. --- A Fallen Mascot ...
