I mean, yeah, I don't mean to oversimplify things. Sometimes it's a compatibility issue. But sometimes it's the other person, and sometimes it's you. For example, some people have expectations that are so unrealistic that they expect their partner to come perfect out of the box, and when they're not, they're dropped. No discussion, no compromise, no opportunity. Those types tend not to succeed at maintaining relationships and I would call that a personal failing.
