Just your typical person that loved Mother though was let down by the ending. Finally decided to give Father a spin. The pilot episode was ASS but I kept going for the same reason I started -- I've adored Hilary Duff all my life.

Surprisingly, it got better for me around ep 3-4. Cast more or less started to mesh more, jokes landed more often, I started to grow fond of the crew. Season 1 is generally decent, all in all. Started season 2 and that's where things really started to hit, it feels like the writers have fully settled in and started to experiment more. I love the cast chemistry. S2 is currently at 12/20 eps and every ep I've been laughing my ass off with and liked a lot, some eps getting me in the feels (like 12).

Just wanted to talk about it. I went into it expecting to feel it's mediocre the whole way through but I'm very pleasantly surprised so far, I truly feel it's a good successor to the original show.

however, during the first season, while I wasn't into it too much, it had a "comfy" feel that had me coming back.

I also liked season 1 but season 2 is so much better. I was so glad it was given a second season. The most recent episode is seriously great.

Hilary Duff does a great job of capturing that wistful romantic and I just love her. The rest of the cast is good too. I especially like the dynamic between Ellen and Jesse.

I think season 2 is better than even HIMYM, which was always kinda lame.

season 1 of how i met your mother wasnt the greatest either
i feel most shows dont hit their stride until their second seasons
thats when the actors feel more comfortable in the roles, the personalities are more established so you know which jokes work for which character and the writing usually just gets better

not always though
some shows like heroes have amazing season 1s then crappy season 2s

I agree. Only the pilot did I think was outright bad, it kept improving from there.

I love Ellen and Jesse, though I'd like to see her get more stuff with the other cast apart from Charlie. Who btw, I LOVE watching him and Sid.

Actually the father has already been revealed
It's revealed at the end if the first episode that one of the men introduced in the pilot is the father
We just don't know which one
Which unfortunately means any relationship the men are in are doomed to keep the mystery going

I guess that makes it better than HIMYM where it was "oh, this random chick we introduced at the very end is the Mom oh she's dead now"

honestly my genuine prediction is that it's Sid. Jesse x Sophie seems like a Ted x Robin missed connection and they've been setting up that Sid is obviously not happy in his LTR. Their scene together (Sid/Sophie) during their double date with Josh Peck and Sid's wife kinda made me instantly think it was them.

I love Charlie but I hope he's not the father, since he doesn't want children and it'll be refreshing having a childfree character actually stay childfree. Same reason why I like the idea of Sid and Val eventually being a thing.

Does the son know who it is at this point? That's the part that's confusing me. You'd think he'd know his Dad's name or enough about him to figure it out by now.

It's possible they haven't decided yet and have kept it open depending on who she has the most chemistry with in the cast. Which I overall think is Jesse.

Respect the takes but I just can't get into it. I LOVE himym (seen it many times over) and am all caught up on himyf, but I just don't really find myself rooting for any of the cast. Not even Sophie at times - and same as others, I love hill-dawg.

I will keep trying. Out of respect for himym. But I'm worried that I'm just watching for cameos at this point

This is a good question and one I've been wondering. It feels like bio dad is barely in his life, if he is at all. But Sophie's own stuff with her dad, you'd think she wouldn't wait until the son is in college to tell him. So does that mean one of the likeable guys we've met already turns into an asshole bum dad? Or god forbid, is killed off.

or maybe current Sophie is telling it in a way that's more vague for him but not for us viewers, idk.

Gotta say, that's some real devotion to still be keeping up with it while you haven't been enjoying it. I hope it gets better for you, at least.
