What a fun day! DraKoi is very pleasant, 1000 Stars is surprisingly great, and Lobotomy is a straight up banger. Ordinary Days is solid enough that I would be okay with it winning. The other songs are fine. Glad to have a day like this!

Love Song of a Certain Dragon maybe could've made this close, but Divine is nothing special to me. EPB's been a top favorite of mine since I played DQ almost 20 years back.

Oh man You Can Have Mine is soooo boring. I actively dislike Ordinary Days tho whoops.

Eden 1 doesn't have much going on either, but what is happening is enjoyable. Second Warning is the other song I like today. Kinda reminds me of a Neon White song. Wish it last longer.

i was worried that divine song was going to be vocals the whole way through. i don't mind this vocal style, but idk if it carries on for too long it kind of becomes grating to me? but this is short and sweet and pleasant.

powerone on the other hand is indescribably good. the texture ... the crackling ... holy fuck i love it when music just has this industrial edge to it. its so focused. managing to be both energetic and relaxing just holy shit im fucking mesmerised by this song. it's a siren in music form.

i thought you can have mine was decent but not particularly remarkable when i first heard it. i must be in a better mood today, because there was more to latch onto this time.

ordinary days however is a bit of an old favourite. i mean kind of, i don't really go back to it much, tbh. but its one of those songs i always point to when i come across it like "yooo love that shit!"

eden 1 isn't particularly dissimilar to powerone to my ears, but it still feels distinct and unique. less "harsh" to my ears, but a lot of what i had to say about powerone, i say about this.

second warning i don't like near as much, but i still think is pretty great! i love the vibes of some kind of scp or area 51 facility going under lockdown and hell breaking loose. which i think is in line with what lobotomy corporation is about? i don't know ive only heard about it in passing.

DraKoi - Divine Song of a Certain Dragon -5.5 - Another song I would prefer without the vocals. Or at least for the vocals to be a different key or more muted. Please, let the vgm shine.. Its actually pretty relaxing by itself. The dreamy sound at 1:00 that echoes and reverberates into a full rich dreamscape is beautiful.

Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter - PowerOne -7 -
Last year's comments:
Timber! The song of trees cracking and breaking. It's such an odd sound that it took me out of experiencing the rest of the song. The second part where the bass picked up was very good, however. It had a regal and determined energy about it.

A year later and I still dont like the creaking sound but lets focus on the positives. The chords flow effortlessly and theres this synthy constant drum in the background that grows in power until it unifies with the rest of the song. All building for that wonderful beat halfway through.

Journey of 1000 Stars - You Can Have Mine -6.5 - I remember when hearing this in nominations, i was awestruck but somewhat annoyed. Maybe at the fact it was so long and didnt add change too much throughout the song. This is a cool song though. I do wish it was shorter or went a little harder. It reminds me of duckgames ost with its retro-esque funk feel. Its very playful and had like mischievous energy. Theres not as many high highs or low lows, but its consistently fine.

Lethal League - Ordinary Days -3 - Its interesting how this has a similar yet completely different feel from You Can Have Mine. This is produced and composed very well, it just has a sinister wistful sound that I dont really like. Maybe its the thumping drum and sample quality beats.

Outpost 2: Divided Destiny - Eden 1 - 4- The vibe this creates is kinda cool but I cant say I like it without a nice melody to latch onto. The deep reverberating drums are probably the coolest part, with the glitchy sounds as a close second

Lobotomy Corporation - Second Warning -6.5 - Feels like Im in a futuristic dystopian hellscape. I like how theres two (or more) major layers to this. The breakcore underlying and amping up the whole song and the occasional frantic higher pitched strings that add a nice texture. Minus points for the accelerating beat drop thats in every club song at 1:45 though.

You Can Have Mine does a lot of what I like, the soothing electronic sounds building up into something really layered and uplifting. Favorite part of Second Warning is 1:27-1:47 where the beat gets much less chaotic and the tense melody becomes the focus.

My Guitar, Which Likes To Club (Asphalt 5)

Divine Poem: Really like this one. Lovely vocals and the soft percussion and harp and synths just really make this really pleasing to listen to. Great song.

PowerOne: I hate that this is the matchup. PowerOne is one of the strongest examples of industrial VGM. Just an awe-inspiring soundscape in this one, and 1:39 is so powerful. Fantastic song. Would be nice to see this one retire. Hate voting against Divine Poem tho.

You Can Have Mine: Big Giant Circles is pretty good. This one was a standout during noms. Just a nice, fun modern chiptune. It's very well-mixed as well. Very good song.

Ordinary Days: More house. A very cool house song too. Good vocal samples and production. Another difficult match tbh.

Eden 1: Another very interesting Tunnel pick. Cool soundscape and percussive elements. Enjoyed it quite a bit.

Second Warning: This one has some neat synths, but the actual composition feels pretty dull. It's just a bunch of fast breakbeat loops with synths on top and not much else. The intro is a bit off-putting as well. Not a fan of this one unfortunately.

A very strong day today. Only one song I didn't enjoy. Also, my match 2 vote is one I didn't expect to make coming in.

Divine Song of a Certain Dragon I like a lot. Pretty harp and soothing vocals make it a very pleasant song. The synth in the second half is great also and that's probably my favorite part of the song. PowerOne is serviceable. The factory-like percussion sound and the clicks are neat but don't do enough to really push the song to the top level.

You Can Have Mine is a nice mix of chill vibes and intricate melodies, and it changes things up just often enough to hold my attention. Ordinary Days I'm conflicted on. Rhythmically it's very cool and I think there's a lot to like about the song, but the chord choice that the song uses just isn't always something I like. On the whole I suppose it's pretty good but not quite enough to get my vote.

Eden 1 is a cool mix of percussion and electronic...something or other. Really like the ambiance this song has. As usual I really don't like the percussion style used in Second Warning.

you can tell this is from the same game as that other dra+koi song that was always in. I do like it for similar reason even if it's a lot slower in pace. it's like a saori kobayashi-ified version of the best is yet to come(referring to the synth lead in the 2nd half. very panzer dragoon orta core). I would probably vote for this in a lot of matches but it got an unfortunate draw

seriously can't get over how many 10/10 top 50 (or 10) songs this contest has in it for me. granted this one is a bit more expected to show up in a vgmc. and I've been mentioning it less since it was always been on the low end of that border (I'm not even sure it's my favorite song in the gamebut I wind up listening to it as much as all the other songs I placed into my top 50 songs guessing game). I was thinking this actually has very little of what I like about hitoshi sakimoto's composition style in it somehow, the appeal is purely the precise mix of timbres and O_o heckin EPICness of it. some of the other tracks I like from this game are more obvious examples of what I like about sakimoto composition (bio public corporation, industrial area. or the one I nommed all have lots of Radiant Silvergun Ass parallel harmony or fourths/fifths based stuff that sounds like TRON WENDY CARLOS 1982.) but those are a bit less perfect in terms of timbre mixture and imagery evoked for me than electric power building. it's a tough call but all those are lingering around this 9.999 zone and might beat electric power building some daythose aren't even the only sakimoto songs I can say that abou.t. anyway electric power building IS my fav (barely) for a reason. IT'S.. . THAT . ITS IT. ITS PERFRCT. I feel like I'm in the electric power building oh man. you can find jolteon and zapdos here.

reminding me a lot of an old favorite from a different ocremix artist: "Celluar" from Fittest by Zircon. I think if it were 2009 I'd be obsessed with this for it's adjacency to that sound

the cool unnatural sound of chord samples transposing around in a lot of edm has always been something I'm fond of, and probably partly responsible for me gravitating toward more deliberate incarnations of that kinda composition in other genres too. fairly close match

oh no. I'm not prepared to talk about how much I love eden1. well it blew my mind when I first heard it. I loved Rama ost to death already (and rama is one of my favorite games as a game too). but eden1 has that rama sound but in an absurdly tight way to my composition preference. it's got transposing chord clusters? sequences of stuff rapidly going up in stacks of fifths!?!?!? and all this oddball like "tonal instrument being used like a drum" like drum track mapped to a tonal track accidentally type sound except on purpose. which just makes for some wild dissonant syncopated stuff. and oh man all these metallic sounds. and it sells this bleak artificial space setting so perfectly well. it wasn't even like this at the time I nommed but I think outpost 2 is like maybe my 6th favorite game ost or something. this track is still by far my favorite from it, but i do love almost every track it has to offer. I didn't even think it was possible chuck barth could out-do what I loved about him from rama. all these wonderful 80s & 90s synths i love (one single roland jv2080 patch is responsible for half of what I love here) playing back at this fuzzy 22050hz aaaah. I feel like eden1 might be one of the single pieces of music I can think of that represents my current taste in music best. and it's definitely in my top 10. more absolutely confidently than other stuff I've been saying (like I'm having to debate if it actually somehow beats rock castle. it's tight). was really lucky I was able to find a used copy of the game at a random book store in Arizona recently (its what the scan in this yt video came from). took me by surprised to see it there. I'm normally not an rts guy but I loved this soundtrack so overwhelmingly much that I feel I need to play this one just for the music

I like the dissonance: ) the beginning has some cool reversed attack stuff I dig. nice and edgy
