The demo is the prologue of the game and your save carries over into the full release, if you preordered it's basically just getting the start of the game 2 weeks early.

Yes, so far. And there is an option at any moment where it pulls up this little submenu with story and background on wheres and whos. but not overwhelmingly so.

Controls are ok. I haven't tried yet but I hope you can adjust button schemes a bit.

my hand hurts, it's not as intuitive as say God Of War controls for battle.

Once you get by the hour of cutscenes the game picks up quite a bit. The disjointed part of the demo that doesn't carry over is paced much better.

I'm not a fan of the mini-scenes when you begin talking to an NPC where they're just kind of awkwardly standing there, it feels out of place compared to how polished everything otherwise is, but apart from that I found it very fun. I'm intrigued to see where the story takes it.

It seems the HP stats were bumped up, thank goodness. At least based on the first area of combat.

Yeah I almost wish I hadn't played this because I am....very hungry.

On the other hand, when the game comes out at midnight I will be deep in the much already instead of watching a solid hour of cutscenes (good cutscenes, but still).

Soken is already killing it here from the get go.

Also I have to beat the game in a week before Rain Code comes out, so every hour counts.

FFXV, to me, is the game I personally consider the worst video game of all time.

And I did not buy into the Strangers of Paradise meme energy at all that game is kind of booty.

I would say this demo alone, even if there wasn't a full game attached to it, is enough to have me convinced. I can't imagine how they could fuck it up with a foundation like this.

Compared to the 3 FFXV demos where they kept being like "do you like this, we don't know what we're doing, tell us what to do", which filled me with more and more dread with every subsequent release. Ironically their very first Carbuncle demo felt significantly better than the final product.

I really liked the tone they landed on here, I know people were concerned it would be too much dark and edgy Game of Thrones shit - and it is - but also it's like the anime Hot Topic version which rules. At the end of the demo when the countess starts doing her anime villain routine and signals to have her servants executed I actually yelled, that shit was so brutal but still hilarious.

The Eikon battle I wasn't impressed with in terms of gameplay but it was a cool interactive cutscene. They are REALLY leaning into the mecha inspiration, we are already at one Evangelion reference.

I don't think it'll break any barriers on originality but if this holds up it should be a fun ride.

Negatives:
Combat is a little too button mashy.
Adding a button combo for opening heavy doors? totally unnecessary.
Two guys that join you on your mission in the demo aren't naked Wedge and Biggs
Needing to wait 10 days to continue the story.

PS5 exclusive for 6 months. YoshiP made it clear that the exclusivity being for 6 months does not mean the game will be out on PC in 6 months, and that there was no date for the PC version yet.

Finished the demo
Clive seems pretty cool. The bosses are a bit spongy but hopefully as you unlock more abilities in stuff the combat gets more diverse. Not sure about the story but we'll see how it goes. I don't like the cutscenes where you have to walk like a snail while listening to people talk (I hated those in 7R too). Just make it a cutscene!

Overall seems like it should be a fun time unless it goes off the rails

I didn't know Cid was going to be a "party member" Minor thing if it really is so early in the game but having 3 eikons already definitely felt much further along story wise.

There's a message at the beginning of the demo that explains this section of the game has been modified to give you eikons and abilities you wouldn't ordinarily have at this stage for the purposes of further showcasing the combat. If it's only a few hours beyond the prologue I wouldn't expect to have that much more beyond your starter Phoenix stuff in the main game.

oh totally. I read the message too and then proceeded to play it (not to completion) I just regret doing it, knowing I still have to wait a week to play and am still hyped up on the storyline we were given in the actual demo/start of game.
