Seems like tough matches all around for lots of us today. For me, match 2 was the hardest... both such good songs. Still not sure of my decision.

Also why does Dean Evans, who is clearly on the same level as the likes of David Wise, Yoko Shimomura, Koji Kondo, etc. get hired to composed for games nobody knows about?

Memories in the Mist is another one of my favorite discoveries this year, with this one in particular being during the nomination phase. Very lovely track and is quite different from what else I had heard from this soundtrack in particular.

Baking the Wondertart is not what I expected at all from Cuphead and it is really cool. (Cuphead music I'm familiar with is also cool but this is cool in a totally different way)

Decent chance I vote differently in match 2 on most days, but I am slightly sick at the moment and am not in a mode of having as much patience to give to passive songs.

This is not what I envision "pizza time" sounding like.

Baking the Wondertart was one hell of way to finish off the Cuphead DLC. Such a great and dramatic song to finish out the game with the darker tone for jazz the song uses, and the tension from hearing it is remarkable. Heart-pounding as it should be, it gets me scared yet amped to finish the fight. Great work from Maddigen once again!

Mario 64's Staff Roll really is the best way to finish off the game. It's a very lighthearted farewell to a classic adventure with your favorite plumber; the whistles and synths paint a happy picture of just unwinding after a big long journey. Very uplifting to hear overall, it has a very soothing effect on me that I appreciate a bunch.

God damn, I was NOT expecting this Verytex song to be this much of a banger, like at ALL. That classic Genesis soundchip is being put to great use here, the synths in Void of Space are energetic and letting out that great energy as they should be. Very neat discovery!

Memories in the Mist is giving me "One Who Bares Fangs at God but more symphonic + chiptune" vibes. It's a very moody piece, creating that feeling of mystery very well in my mind. You really feel like you don't know where you're going next with a song like this, it sounds great for an adventure that tests your skill to see if you can find your way forward or not.

It's a shame Unused Song 2 ended up being what it says on the label, the ambiance that Dean Evans creates here is nothing that should be left forgotten. It's a pretty cool song, it sounds suitable for exploring a very deep cave or part of the ocean that's very far away from a light source.

Pizza Time starts off well, but it does lose steam rather quickly by being too repetitive for my taste. It's got that panicky vibe to a tee and really going with it, but I've definitely heard it done better in other instances (see AHiT - Collapsing Rift). Still like it though! I'll be hearing it plenty soon enough.

MATCH 1

Baking the Wondertart is really interesting, mainly for the organ. Not something I'd expect to hear from Cuphead, and I'm always down for dark organ chord progressions. Definitely a fun surprise of a song.

Staff Roll is a nice closing song. Definitely feels like you're saying goodbye, and probably "thank you so much for playing my game" as well. 1:13-1:31 is my favorite part, as well as the key change at the end. This match is really close today, but I'll stick with Staff Roll.

MATCH 2

The Void of Space has a bit of a rough beginning with the harshness of the synth, but it picks up some afterwards. Melody-wise, it's fine, but nothing special.

Memories in the Mist has a nice, soft sound to it, but it feels a bit lacking in a way I can't describe. I guess it's just not engaging enough? Too ambient? I don't want to say it's empty because there's a good amount of stuff that goes on in this song, but it almost does have that feeling. Still, I think it's more my style compared to The Void of Space, but this is also a somewhat close match.

MATCH 3

Unused Song 2 has some cool soloing in the melody. I've heard better Dean Evans songs (shoutout to Waterworld - Map), but this one's fine. Nothing bad to say about it.

It's Pizza Time's main melody is fun and crazy, but I think I prefer the calmness of Unused Song 2 more. It's Pizza Time's just not really doing it for me.
