I'll probably watch this eventually. Last few seasons have been more misses than hits, so I'm hoping there's at least a few quality episodes this time around.

If any of you guys watch this soon, I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.

I decided to watch through the series again first, just got through White Christmas today. I actually never did Bandersnatch either.

I enjoyed Bandersnatch even if the execution was a bit messy

The first episode of the season is legitimately the funniest episode Black Mirror has ever done. I know that's a weird thing to say, but, damn. It's great.

Just coming on here to check to see if there was a topic about this haha.

Watched the first 3 episodes of the new season. all of them were amazing. Huge improvement. Gave me vintage high-quality Netflix originals vibes.

The first two episodes have a mock-Netflix streaming service called Streamberry. Usually when Netflix is talked about in its shows, its via a corny joke or some other hokey method, but those episodes were real mind fucks. Third episode was great because the twist seemed really obvious for most of the episode but then they surprise you with ending it in a different direction.

Finished the first episode. That was pretty fun, with some shocking scenes. Though it does feel pretty similar to episodes like Kill the DJ with it all being a simulation. I like how it integrates content-hungry streaming services, people being cynical about themselves, and IoT/smartphone surveillance.

When I first watched this I didn't think it would be for me, but San Junipero and Fifteen Million Merits are some all time TV episodes for me.

I saw Aaron Paul is in the new season, so I am excited to see him as well.

I mean look at the first episode of the entire series, which is easily still a top 3 episode. It's shocking that it took them this long to bring back humor into their dark humor series.

i don't think the show has been particularly thought-provoking since season 1 really. especially not since netflix. but season 6 is fun so far and if anything it's more thought-provoking than most episodes in a long time, especially in the sense that it is actually holding up a mirror to the viewer, which the show doesn't usually do anymore in lieu of just showing some fucked up stuff and saying "man wouldn't that be fucked up if that happened"

the issue is that for a lot of people, (especially viewers that started with netflix seasons), 1x01 is "that weird episode that you should skip because it's not like the rest of the show" when actually it lays out the entire concept of the show - a concept which does not need to be dramatic rather than comedic and doesn't need to involve crazy future sci-fi tech. hence why any time an episode isn't a super dark sci-fi thriller people say it "didn't really feel like black mirror" when those aren't actually the things that make black mirror black mirror. (except they kind of are once the show got netflix-ified so hey maybe they're right)

Yeah I think it's a bit pretentious to say that the style of the 1st episode is more "correct" than the style that made the show wildly popular, but I personally was excited for a series that was more like that 1st episode and was disappointed when I didn't get it

The bookend episodes of this season were really enjoyable, but I question the general veering more and more towards fantasy, personally. That said, it was a pretty breezy watch, aside from episode 4.

Just getting started. Episode one was good, though then you remember one of the reasons the WGA is currently striking is because they want to limit use of AI and the networks, including Netflix, are so far refusing to budge on it, so...

  1. Demon 79
  2. Loch Henry
  3. Beyond the Sea
  4. Joan is Awful
  5. Mazey Day
Demon 79 was fantastic. Might be my favorite Black Mirror ep, dethroning San Junipero. Also, I was waiting for the son to snap at the end of Loch Henry and commit a murder, then smiling.

Two episodes down; I'll post my full thoughts after I finish the entire season, but for now I'm enjoying it. Joan is Awful was hilarious, and, though I thought it dragged on for a bit too long I couldn't have predicted that plot twist for Loch Henry so it was worth all the buildup I thought was unnecessary. I started Beyond the Sea, but I was only able to get halfway through it before I was called away so no thoughts on that yet. Quite a concept though!

Watched the first 3 episodes. Joan is Awful was funny and I thought Salma Hayek was great in it. Loch Henry and Beyond the Sea were alright, but they had their moments.

Getting super nitpicky for a sec, but in Beyond the Sea: given how advanced the replica technology is, would it not make a million times more sense to send the replicas on the space mission and have the humans stay on Earth? Why would they do the reverse? I understand the plot needs to happen, but still.

Probably gonna finish the season this weekend.

Oh yeah I did finish this. Put me on team enjoyed all but Mazey Day.

Loch Henry - Great, really enjoyed both the story and the social commentary, classic Black Mirror.

Beyond the Sea - Also really good, liked the ambiguity of the ending for instance did he kill the dog instead of the family and I fell for their fakeout and thought it would end with him getting locked outside.

Mazey Day - What the hell was that?

Demon 79 - A fun different thing, as it makes clear with the Red Mirror labelling. Wasnt sure about the ending but I liked the reference to the film Threads. I do wonder if knowing the local history helps as the backdrop is very true to the UK at the time.

  1. Loch Henry
  2. Beyond the Sea
  3. Demon 79
  4. Joan is Awful
  5. Mazey Day

But really its four I liked similarly, a massive drop, then Mazey Day.

At the movie theater, they said that the test is to figure out space's long-term effects on humans. Still, I agree that they should have thought this test out further.

Demon 79 > Loch Henry > Beyond the Sea > Joan is Awful > Mazey Day

Demon 79 is really good. Loch Henry and Beyond the Sea were good. Joan is Awful is a good premise but terrible execution. Mazey Day is just bad all around. One of the worst I've seen.

Watched beyond the sea because I heard people say good things

It felt like the worlds slowest moving train crash. What a ridiculous string of bad decisions. Didnt enjoy it because I couldnt believe at how they picked the worst option at ever turn.

even if he didnt fall for his wife there a million bad things that could have happened. Hell, just dying in an accident or committing a crime in the other guys body would have turned out terribly.

Just watched Beyond the Sea. I expected it to end poorly in one way, and then it ended poorly in a completely different way. Really there were only going to be bad endings, it's just a matter of which way they wanted to go with it.

Never too late.

Much appreciated.

Demon 79 > Beyond the Sea > Joan is Awful > Loch Henry > Mazey Day

Only the first two are what I would call great television, but I enjoyed all of them aside from Mazey Day.

I guess I was a bit harsher on Loch Henry and a bit more forgiving on Joan is Awful than most. Joan kept me entertained the entire way through while Henry was much more of a slow burn. I also didn't care for how Henry concluded- not the climax, just the falling action. Very abrupt endings with no real consequences for the antagonist nor any real justice for the protagonist really don't do it for me I guess. Like I get that life is fucked up like that sometimes, but I hate being reminded of it. I don't think I need to explain the other three since they're unanimously liked and loathed respectively, but if anyone else is still interested to share their thoughts I'm still here to discuss!
