- Massive planet you traverse openly with no fast travel elevators, and the same 5 recurring hostile life forms.

- Samus has all abilities from the start.

- No notable fortress levels just the open world.

- 5 minute long Silo's where Samus hacks in to get a health bar extension.

- 4 Meta Ridley bosses with a final Mother Brain boss.

Is this the Metroid you want?

No, that would lose its entire identity, IMO. Metroid's foundation is finding new abilities to explore areas you couldn't before. Zelda's identity at least started with "explore and find shit to your heart's content."

I unironically think that Nintendo is giving Metroid the "Breath of the Wold" treatment, but not in the way you described.

What I mean by that is that they are looking to reinvent Metroid with something that is both new and familiar to provide a fresh experience with the franchise, similar to what they did to Odyssey with Mario, Forgotten Land with Kirby, and BotW with Zelda. It would explain why they restarted development. Whatever was attempted before just wasn't giving it that "grand" feeling and they wanted to get it right. It's not every day a company will just scrap a game entirely and start from scratch, and then announcing it to the whole world.

Whether or not people will like the change will be anyone's guess, but I do expect something of a departure from the first three Metroid Primes.

Do you only own Nintendo consoles? No offense intended. I just get so confused when people pretend that BotW and TotK were innovative. They lifted several previously existing open world and building simulator gimmicks and just put them in a Hyrule themed world. Which is fine if it's the first time you've seen it, but it would be nice if we had a proper Zelda game in the last 12 years.

Breath of the Wild was definitely innovative as far as open world games go. "If you see it, you can go there" was often made but never kept promise until BotW. It was true open world in a way that previous open worlds didn't really deliver very well on

Nintendo would have to care about Metroid for that happen.

Jokes aside, the only mechanics of BOTW/TOTK that would not translate well to Metroid are weapons breaking and maybe lack of item-related progression. Obviously weapons breaking would make absolutely no sense at all in a Metroid game where almost every single weapon is part of Samus' arm cannon.

Items tied to progression is one I'm not really sure about. Prior to BOTW, I considered that an integral part of Zelda. But that game proved to me that you could still have a great Zelda game without it. I feel like it's a lot more important to Metroid games, but who knows, maybe they really could give Samus all her abilities from the start and make it work somehow.

But none of the places you could see led anywhere that exciting. I mean the Ancient Beast set pieces were fine, I guess. But the world was very bland and weren't hiding anything of substance.

I haven't played TotK, because why would I pay $70 for a repeat of a game I was lukewarm to, but all sources say it is worse in this aspect.

A Metroid game like Elden Ring would kick so much ass though. Huge open expanses mixed with dense, tight level design. It's not the kind of game series that would suit the The Legend of Zelda approach to open world though.

They already don't, but thankfully they seem to at least be smart enough to put people who DO know Metroid in charge of the project.

Well, in my opinion BotW got old very fast. Why doesn't Nintendo just call their open world games something else and go back to making real Zelda games?

You BotW fanboys have no respect for the OG Zelda fans. Sure, you enjoy these generic open world games and that's fine. But have some respect. The people that grew up with and loved Zelda have lost it forever. We have the old games, and that's it. The future ones are these unrecognizable dime a dozen open world building simulators, and Nintendo has given up on making true Zelda games. We get it. You guys won. But to those of us that love Zelda, we no longer have that series to look forward to. Why can't you just acknowledge that instead of pretending like everything is better now because you can build a Gundam in this Zelda? (For some reason. Like, why would I ever want to build a giant robot in a fantasy based series?)

Nintendo didn't even regard the rightful criticisms. Why is the combat system still from OoT? Why does the horse still handle so bad? Why are there no dungeons? You're just OK being short changed like this?

All us OG Zelda fans want is for everyone to have a better game. Why are you so hostile to us?

I started with Zelda 1 when I was 4 or 5 and grew up playing them all. I don't know what the obsession is with wanting to play OoT in different arrangements for another 20 years but Zelda desperately needed a change. BotW needs some refinement but it's a massive step in the right direction and TotK improved on it further

I'm not asking for OoT again. I'm asking for them to put more than five minutes of effort into the dungeons, which are a staple in the series, give significance to items/treasure you collect, which actually give a progressive and rewarding feeling to exploration, and expand the enemy diversity, which they have done since Link's Adventure.

It's you BotW/TotK fan boys that are gas lighting the real fan base by pretending like those things wouldn't make the new games objectively better. You don't want interesting dungeons or more enemy types?
