Discs are just physical codes nowadays anyways, so it's honestly not that big a deal I think.

Especially for a game like Starfield who's 1.0 version is going to inevitably be an unplayable nightmare.

So the thing that is increasingly the industry standard will be the standard for this game. Okay.

Can we stop with the whole Xboner thing? Its just outdated juvenile console warring at this point. Just makes me feel a little embarrassed for the person writing it.

Its a massive waste of plastic to make boxes for a game just for it to have a code inside. Might as well just do full digital only because I literally dont get the point of selling a box without a disc in it

Microsoft continues to discriminate against those who want to buy Starfield, but would like it in a disk format. Of course we're aware they function the same as a download code, but we would still like the option

Disc based will always be superior at least here in the UK. They're cheaper and you usually get them a day or two earlier than release day. Online only basicaly puts you at the mercy of the console makers digital store meaning you're forced to overpay for stuff until years down the line when it actually gets a decent sale price.

Honestly thought this was incredibly dumb.

I just don't understand it. I understand wanting a box, but why would you want 2 discs? Just feels like people being contrarian to express their rejection of digital media.

But outside of collector's stuff I also haven't purchased a physical game since Apollo Justice.

So you can play without having to wait/connect to the internet.

Price and availability. If you're interested in playing an older game that has been delisted, you may be out of luck if it's digital only

People with good internet seem to have trouble understanding that some people have bad internet...

"Availability" is kind of a laugh since the used retro game market is such a complete shitshow these days. All those gems from 20+ years ago will cost you an arm and a leg each if you didn't get them when the getting was good. Meanwhile literally every game ever is available digital through some means, even if companies are typically terrible about preserving availability of their own software.

I have a very small amount of digital games, but it's only because there either was no physical copy or I got the system too late to justifiably get one. I refuse to buy digital when physical is openly available. Amount of discs doesn't matter.

Every LRG I own I also own digitally. It's only for collection purposes. I actually got rid of all my regular physical games over time through ebay and replaced the ones I still wanted with digital. Just no reason to own a box.

I mean, it makes sense for such a small, indie studio like Bethesda

XBONER at this point is just a fun injoke. I don't think anyone here seriously wants to mock XBox.

That being said I'm physical till I die!

I mean the flipside to the good internet connection thing is proximity to game stores. It is significantly faster for me to download even a huge game than to go to a shop to get one and come back which would be true even if I had significantly worse internet. The only dedicated games retailer in my country just closed down, and looking over at the UK recently GAME just closed a huge number of stores, they will probably be next. Other retailers do stock games but less of them and fewer and fewer stores. Physical stores selling games are a dying breed and are disappearing faster than physical games themselves - because if you want to buy a physical game you do it on an online retailer then it takes a day to show up.

All of which is to say, it is faster for me to download a game than get it physically, which would take a long time - and I live in a European capital city, Im not exactly in the sticks. This will become more common for more people as time goes on.

Also it should be noted that sometimes digital can be cheaper as well, that is the case for FFXVI in some regions at least.

Some people (a lot of people) enjoy owning physical things. It's that simple.

The reason physical is getting phased out isn't because benefits anyone in a meaningful way - it's just so corporations can make more profit. No reason to celebrate that, really.

Even if Digital games were $5 more at launch I would still pay the extra to not have to swap out discs. Being able to instantly boot up every single game I own whenever I want is an ENORMOUS benefit. I can also take my console anywhere and have my entire library with me.

As is typical, NFTs are attaching themselves to something that doesn't need NFTs at all. Digital picture frames which are essentially just a screen are already a thing. Like they can be used to display NFT images. But, they can also be used for whatever other pictures one wants.

You can buy a game digital for $60, or a used copy for $40. You just saved $20

then if you sell that copy for $35 you basically paid $5 to play the game. It's not that hard to understand why people want physical copies

right. it's all about the resell. I don't mind paying full price for a game because I know my local used place will give me half of it back.

It's kind of funny to think about that if Fire Emblem Awakening, one of the most popular games in the entire franchise, was a digital only game it would be impossible to buy anymore.

Or the fact that there have been multiple tv shows that have only existed for around 2-5 months and now no longer exist and can't ever been legally seen again.
