You can still take the challenge but they substitute the shrimp with a second 72oz steak
Sub the salad for a third and we got a deal.

I did one better than that when in my early 20's. Mind you, I could eat more than micheal phelps at that age, and never gained any weight.

Becks Steakhouse in Fremont CA https://www.yelp.com/biz/becks-steakhouse-fremont

Used to have what they called a Truck Drivers special, if you could eat it all (think it was in 2 hours but might have been one) it was free. It was Huge for a steak (special back then, there was no internet yet lol...finding steaks over 4 pounds was pretty freaking rare.

I believe it was only 60 oz, but came with (some really good) steak fries (about a pound).

I didn't just eat it though, I ordered a second one after finishing the first. I didn't finish the second but I sure got far into it.

I can still put away alot of steak. Someone saying they get sick after 10 oz is crazy to me, I seriously won't buy steaks when eating out that are not at least a pound....but back before covid, even at almost 50 at the time, I would still eat 6-10 steaks at buffets (rib eye/prime rib) along with a ton of freaking crab legs and a bunch of sides, bread (especially that yum fried bried) etc.

I never did any eating competitions but I sure would have been good at em, all while not gaining any weight at all till 27 and then just a bit if I didn't work out/exercise much. I could also go a year straight playing an MMO (did the year before meeting my wife in fact) without getting out of shape and literally run a mile or two right afterwards and when mountain climbing within 6 months of stopping (played 3k.org 14 1/2 hours straight for a year back in the mid 90's. Stopped cold turkey and started socializing/met my wife within 6 months and was married within a year).

I guess I was very lucky in a few ways, although I ended up diabetic and that is probably partially due to eating so many carbs (I would get 2 large pizzas for myself, my 5 other core friends would split 1 large between them etc). I also drank a ton of soda though so shrug, coulda been that.

I would save so much money if I could only eat a 10 oz steak. I regularly order two meals when going out to eat. I'm currently cooking three lbs of chicken for lunch

I'm sure I could get pretty close if I fasted beforehand. Idk if I could do the whole thing, but I'd get close. An 18oz porterhouse goes down fast for me.

72-ounce Steak Dinner Challenge Includes: Shrimp Cocktail, Baked Potato, Salad, with Roll, Butter, and of course the 72oz Steak

So you have to eat all that stuff PLUS the steak.

Yeah that's some bullshit. Filling you up with bread, starch, and greens beforehand is cheating on their part.

If you can, your dinner will be free. At least, in this steakhouse in Amarillo, Texas.

I've been there several times on my way to or from Las Vegas and SoCal, but I never attempted the challenge.
how many pounds is that? i've heard of this challenge. isn't that the premise for that famous simpsons episode?

A good potato alone can fill you up, adding all of that AND the steak is nuts.

Anyone that smothers steak with ketchup or has it cooked well-done also doesn't really like it. So trust me there is a large portion of America that doesn't like them but thinks they do.

Is there anything in the rules about not vomiting everything back up again?

If not, bring a bucket - easy win. Use their loopholes against them.

Barfing is usually against the rules. I have a friend who tried eating a giant pizza and the employee watching to make sure he didn't cheat gave him a slow, bemused head shake when he threw up with a couple pieces to go.

Hint for pizza: don't get pepperoni or sausage or anything greasy. Maybe chicken.

Eat your steak however you want, I don't really care. Getting it cooked more than medium or using ketchup is definitely big big boomer energy though
