If you can, your dinner will be free. At least, in this steakhouse in Amarillo, Texas.

https://www.bigtexan.com/

I've been there several times on my way to or from Las Vegas and SoCal, but I never attempted the challenge.

as delicious as it sounds, i would turn pale and vomit after maybe 10 oz

Just to ask, have you ever had tenderloin/filet? My wife didn't think she liked steak until trying that...then realized what the fuss is about.

We're having it for dinner tonight, actually. If you cook it yourself (with taters and beans) it's about the same price as taking the family to McDonald's, which is insane.

I am a fatass, though I am not super huge, but I have no problem finishing my meal and leftovers around me and i almost never save leftovers for another meal, 1-2 hours later I usually wolf 'em down.

So I would be curious to see how I'd do. I know if you gave me one day I would definitely have it done, but an hour....I don't know. I know I am no good at speed challenges but an hour is a decent amount of time.

I probably wouldn't try this but I am really curious to see how i'd do.

There are a ton of places that run similar challenges. There used to be a whole show called Man vs Food that was just the host going around doing various eating challenges. They weren't all about quantity, but a good percentage were.

Yeah, he quit doing the show and lost like 70lbs. Apparently the show is running again with a new host though.

Not all of the challenges were about huge quantities of food, some were incredibly spicy instead...which just seems like a whole different set of health problems.

Pretty sure you can have the steak however you want it. I wouldn't automatically say it's bottom of the barrel, especially in places like Texas. You don't mess with meat or barbecue or anything like that.

That said, no. I'd be full before reaching the halfway point.

yeah i know Texas is known for their meats but its $72 for 72 oz of meat, that can potentially be free. This very well might be a loss leader to get people talking and come in, but it seems too cheap for the meat to be any good.

I did one better than that when in my early 20's. Mind you, I could eat more than micheal phelps at that age, and never gained any weight.

Becks Steakhouse in Fremont CA https://www.yelp.com/biz/becks-steakhouse-fremont

Used to have what they called a Truck Drivers special, if you could eat it all (think it was in 2 hours but might have been one) it was free. It was Huge for a steak (special back then, there was no internet yet lol...finding steaks over 4 pounds was pretty freaking rare.

I believe it was only 60 oz, but came with (some really good) steak fries (about a pound).

I didn't just eat it though, I ordered a second one after finishing the first. I didn't finish the second but I sure got far into it.

I can still put away alot of steak. Someone saying they get sick after 10 oz is crazy to me, I seriously won't buy steaks when eating out that are not at least a pound....but back before covid, even at almost 50 at the time, I would still eat 6-10 steaks at buffets (rib eye/prime rib) along with a ton of freaking crab legs and a bunch of sides, bread (especially that yum fried bried) etc.

I never did any eating competitions but I sure would have been good at em, all while not gaining any weight at all till 27 and then just a bit if I didn't work out/exercise much. I could also go a year straight playing an MMO (did the year before meeting my wife in fact) without getting out of shape and literally run a mile or two right afterwards and when mountain climbing within 6 months of stopping (played 3k.org 14 1/2 hours straight for a year back in the mid 90's. Stopped cold turkey and started socializing/met my wife within 6 months and was married within a year).

I guess I was very lucky in a few ways, although I ended up diabetic and that is probably partially due to eating so many carbs (I would get 2 large pizzas for myself, my 5 other core friends would split 1 large between them etc). I also drank a ton of soda though so shrug, coulda been that.

Dude, even without a time limit I'm stuffed after 12 oz and feel physically ill if I even attempt 16.

72 oz is multiple times too much meat. I have no idea how anyone could eat that and not throw up halfway through, nevermind doing it in an hour.
