The physical games sales have been pretty bad so far while digital seems to have something id like at least every other week.

Price determines everything and can kill physical at this rate....

Id strongly prefer physical but theres plenty of digital only games or if the price is way better then digital all the way.

Or those games where the digital is dirt cheap while the physical is some insanely expensive limited run type deal. Screw those.

The clearance section and retailers gets worse all the time as well.

I'd rather have physical as well, but have no regrets whatsoever from raiding flash sales.
$60 physical vs $60 digital = physical
$20 physical vs $60 digital = physical
$20 physical vs $2 digital = digital
$500 physical vs $6 digital = goddamit suikoden, then digital.

Although theres nothing better when you find a game you want physical on clearance.....

If i have a physical game and dont play it i still have a sealed physical game. Im ok with this.

If i dont play a digital game then it was a waste of money so i prioritize them.

I strongly prefer digital lol. Physical was only good for trading with friends, but I don't do that much these days. And I have plenty of disposable income, so if I wanted a game, I could just buy it as soon as I wanted it.

Physical you always gotta factor in the "rebate" of being able to resell. I got to play SF6 new physically, got bored of it and was able to sell for $50, and now I'm free to eventually rebuy when all DLC is available for $40 or less. If I bought digital I would be out $60 and locked into paying even more for DLC.

Digital is better on everything but well having a physical thing. I like having a physical thing.

But also usually i "hunted" down a good price physically so i usually remember the fun of getting the game.

Digital games have no story of getting them. You went to the digital marketplace and bought it.....

Lol, no they haven't. Physical requires space and they're constantly being liquidated from stores at cheap prices.

To me, I wouldn't mind going digital if they just fucking compressed their damn game sizes. It's insane to me that a 1TB harddrive can only hold like 7 games these days.

I dont get not doing both though. Youd miss out on games and sales exclusively doing one or the other.

I was physical for basically my entire gaming life until about 10 years ago, it's convenient, as said, digital sales are awesome, I got the entire XCOM2 collection for 5 dollars.

It was tough to transition, but not being a possessive person helped a lot. If I lose a digital Xbox 360 game I haven't played in 10 years tomorrow to some licensing thing, I don't really care. I generally don't replay games, and don't feel the need to maintain a collection. 99% of games are one and done for me, play it, if I like it, beat it, maybe get some more achievements, and never think about it ever again.

You have to consider the fact that digital games should be half price right out the gate... you can't share them, you don't physically own them, it costs the devs literally nothing in actual manufacturing, no case no manual no anything.

I always wait until the complete edition of a game comes out with all dlc and buy it at no higher than $30 and even then, I hate that I'm trapped with only a digital version.

And yet people actually defend the price hike and price increases because "durr inflation" . Well guess what considering we're literally renting this software it is definitely a dick move. And god help us if they move forward with always online connections or shit like that...

I dont see the point of physical for anything besides Switch ever since the XB1 / PS4 generation.

For Xbox and PlayStation, the discs are just glorified installers. For most anything with a day 1 patch, you have to download the rest of the game, so in a few decades, if the servers are offline, youll be in exactly the same boat as digital buyers, except youll have the added inconveniences of having to get up and swap discs when you want to switch games and having the game boxes take up a bunch of space in your house or apartment.

At least Switch carts dont install anything and thus should contain a complete game, as far as Im aware.

I buy digital only, and on Switch, whether you buy digital or physical, updates and DLCs are stored separately from the game itself. Dumping physical games ends up with a different file extension than the updates and DLCs, and dumping digital games ends up with the same file extension, which makes my OCD happy.

Im primarily a PC gamer though, so physical just makes no sense.

I mean, I do still buy CDs and Blu-Rays and rip them, but thats because the physical copy contains higher quality audio / video than what most digital storefronts sell.

I can also understand the appeal of collecting rare things. Ive started trying to collect the Sun Eater hardcovers, because I love the series and the author, and there were only about 2500 copies printed so they are hard to get (the first three are out of print).

I could see collecting rare physical copies for reasonable prices, but if the seller knows what they have, theyre never reasonable.

I have brand new and sealed greatest hits copies of Xenogesrs, Xenosaga, and Xenosaga III I think, which would be worth a few hundred dollars probably, but I paid like $60 for all three together probably, and if I play them Im going to emulate them, so the copies are functionally worthless to me.

I dont see how theres a difference. With a physical copy for Xbox and PlayStation, youre installing the game to the internal drive anyway, as loading from the disc is far too slow. So it should take up the same amount of space.

The reason games are so huge now is just laziness though. Fast broadband is so ubiquitous now they expect you to just delete games to make space and redownload when you want to play them. I live in bumfuck nowhere and have 100 Mbps fiber, which translates to roughly 45 GB per hour.
