I'm upto the part where Raiden fights Vamp and how did anyone think this was a masterpiece and a fantastic game? Some batshit insane stuff so far:

• Why is Johnny even with Meryl's group?
• How can a bunch of AI control the world?
• Vamp gets shot in the head but survives because of nanomachines... why don't everyone have these nanomachines then?
• Raiden can spin two Geckos around like toys, but four is too much for him to even move?
• Why do Geckos moo?
• Why do the B&Bs come and hug you? Why do they pose suggestive for you when you let them?

Just ridiculous.

Most of those are not even ridiculous they're just pointing out that your name actually fits you

MGS4 has an objectively bad plot.

Its better then MGSV at least ;)

MGS is full of stupid shit and plot holes. Kojima really knows how to make a great game but the story of MGS has never been its strong suit tbh.

I remember watching the end of that game and when big boss at the end and you have that cutscene that takes forever explaining all the shit about the patriots im just thinking "WTF is even going on in this game anymore"

There was a video about how insane Metal Gear Solid 4 was and it had a hilarious line that was something like "Can a game be good even if no one likes it?"

That's this so far, before all the bullshit exposition comes (e.g., sons of the patriots, patriots, big momma, big-ass submarine, going through a microwave hallway for absolutely no reason).

None of what you said stands between the game and masterpiece status.

You can make most games, and certainly any MGS game sound just as dumb if you just make a bullet point list like that.

Now I'm watching a cutscene about how Snake's genes don't match big boss's genes, and now I'm reminded that big boss is alive, big momma knows big boss is alive, but pretends solidus body is big boss, and also dies in a fire because why not. lolwat

It felt like a culmination of all the crazy and symbolism. The back story games (3, and 5) seemed to be more grounded than 2 and 4. At least to me.

When you listen to people complain about MGS4 of all games you really learn that some people are too far up their own ass to just enjoy something that's intentionally outrageous and absurd. Your concern is that AI controlling the world is ridiculous? With that kind of suspension of disbelief you might as well write off every sci-fi story ever.

I swear some of you learned how to appreciate media from Halo and the very idea of something being done for any reason other than "Look like a badass and be super serious" is unimaginable.

I completely forgot that Naomi hits on Otacon.

Metal Gear 4 was crazy AF. I mean all the games were weird, but there was something off about the 4th game that I didn't like much. Maybe it was because Snake was old and you really were vulnerable throughout the game.

Metal Gear 4 did get me teary eye though at the part you return to Shadow Moses.

The part around 7:12 just hit me with the music and voice flashbacks.

That part is like the only part I'm looking forward to playing. I got my ASUS ROG Ally last week, and have been slowly playing MGS4 on this, since I haven't played this since its release back in 2008.

iirc, Vamp was said to already have a bit of a healing ability, and that the nanomachines enhanced it.

for the Gekko, I've heard multiple explanations, where some people claimed it was to throw off enemy combatants with strange sounds, and others saying it was so enemies would think there were cows somewhere so they could be caught unaware.

Kojima specifically said it was a matter of psychological warfare, although they may be more bio than bio-mechanical from a lot of the context of the game (They get "dizzy" when they spin 360 degrees, they have a sign on their crotch that says "Do not strike", and the react like in-pain when wounded).

On a positive note, when the credits started rolling and the last voice actor is listed as "BIG BOSS - RICHARD DOYLE" all by itself, that was one of the coolest ways to reveal a character.

You are right though how ridiculous the situation was though. MGS2 handled the Patriots better by not trying to explain everything and leaving a lot open for interpretation. MGS4 went the total opposite way by trying to explain everything.

That series took a nose dive after MGS3.

Now the US military shows up for some reason, their guns dont work for another reason, Ocelot is finger-gunning helicopters to fail, the soldiers just stand like cattle while getting shot at by Ocelots PMC, who seem to have unlimited bullets. lololol

I can't remember if this is actually said to be the case or just something I assumed, but I figured that the Patriots made these AIs to control various functions of the world. Then as time went on and Zero got more and more paranoid, they started giving more and more responsibility to the AIs. Until you're at the point in MGS4 where the entire world is controlled by them.

Agreed, tc. That game was the first of the series that made me recoil with cringe.

For starters

- I hated the Johnny-erm 'Akiba'/Meryl Dynamic. Whatever comic-relief that shit was supposed to be did not land and absolutely hindered the story progress of the game

- Most of the bosses lose substance with each entry to the series after MGS1. Four is literally just fanservice chicks with disturbing backstories explained to you by Drebin for some reason instead of having each of them do it in their own way.

- Otacon hooking up with Naomi is just as ridiculous

- Meryl's squad is just there for shits and giggles and offered me no motivation for me to care about them.

The crazy fake shows that play while the different chapters install were so cool and weird.

I love the action cutscenes

They actually address Vamp at one point in 4 and someone implies he's also literally a vampire because nanomachines dont do that.

So, in all likelihood he is some kind of undead who also has nanomachines.

Vamp was the ONLY character I disliked. Felt he was out of place.
