Without their bearers (or crystals) they wouldn't just be in a bad place in their business; they literally couldn't survive. You just assume that the "normal" infrastructure is probably already in place when everything you've been shown in the story runs counter to that. The fact that people absolutely need crystals and magic is repeatedly established, and it's ONLY the Hideaway that is trying to circumvent this. You SEE the agriculture and farming villages in FF XVI, and so far I have never seen them using magic for farming or cultivation at all. So how is this depending on Bearers or Crystals or magic in general? You asume that they have to use crystals for their basic needs and could not life without that at all, but that's just wrong. Explain the wells then. Every well has a crystal cluster suspended above it. Lore says that enough crystals put together can fill a well. As to the subject of farms, all I see in the game is people picking at the ground/crops in their animation loops. No indication of tools or cultivation techniques present. The only farming techniques I seem employed are in the arranging of fields. Now I could make the presumption of using earth magic to purify the soil, but that's never shown on screen as I remember, and I'm not in the habit of making presumptions on thing I'm not shown. --- CyricZ He/him http://twitch.tv/cyricz42 ... Theyre just regular people who can cast magic without a crystal. You're conflating a largescale organized revolt against a standing army with more local revolts against a single community, the latter of which were frequent in the history of slavery. Like John Brown and Harper's Ferry. Those revolts happen not because they think they can win and free all slaves, but because people get fed the hell up with it and just act. [LFAQs-redacted-quote] The biggest difference between the hideaway and the common people is living in the deadlands vs. living in normal land. What are these crystals supposed to be used for? So far I have only seen them as a small portable water source, and some fire starter. The crystals are seen as some divine blessing and mostly their religion, but I have not seen anything that support the assumption that the people are fucked if the crystals are gone (except for some unrest because their holy symbol is gone, and the economic impact because the crystal trade is suddenly nonexisting) But at the same time you see many craftsman, farmers, merchant, innkeepers, stablekeepers, even pharmacists all over the place, not a single one of them using magic of any kind. ... Yes when Clive casts Fire on an enemy, they lose maybe 2% of their HP. But we see Bearers stoke forges, which as I've said, require a very hot temperature to function. Outside the gameplay, they definitely have enough in the tank to be a threat. And they are not cheap in cruelty either. It's a pure dictatorship of fear.
