The worst part is that all her interesting stuff is delegated to the side missions.

Like I didn't even know she was a fucking princess until a mid game side mission. The story from it was more interesting than some main missions too.

Massive mishandling of the slavery narrative is my biggest one. Apparently no one ever thought to free the slaves before Cid. No record of slave revolts. The non-magical of Valisthea treat their superhero slaves as if they're worthless trash despite needing them to perform basic simple tasks such as keeping a fire going or drying clothes.

It hits a pretty egregious point in the first visit to Northreach with the local sidequests there.

They made a big damn deal about wanting to be more like real-life medieval Europe and didn't bother to research what happens when you enslave people for hundreds of years. Empowered people no less, in this case.

It's goofy.

Havent played FF16 so maybe its worse in game but this seems on brand for real life. A lot of "untouchable" classes throughout thr world perform essential functions to society

The main protagonists, over eight hundred years after the practice was established, are the first people to do anything to act against slavery.

Different in this case because the non-magical simply don't have the knowledge on how to do things like start a fire or preserve food. Without their bearers (or crystals) they wouldn't just be in a bad place in their business; they literally couldn't survive.

As you go through the game, your community relearns things like plant cultivation, water filtration, and smithing techniques.

It just seems like they developed the thought halfway without thinking beyond the point where the story transitions into normal Final Fantasy.

Are you sure you played the game?

Because these cultivation and water filtration techniques your community has to learn the hard way, is because they are in middle of the deadlands.

Are you sure you've played it? Literally no one else knows how to do these things, except for the Alliants, of course, being the good ones, and all.

For example, every well has a water crystal suspended above it, even those in non-blighted areas. Nobody knows how to dig for water veins.

Why do so many people that hate Kotaku give them free advertising everytime they say something they don't like?

I swear, a statistically significant portion of their reader base has to be people waiting for posts to complain about on twitter.

Have you seen the output of these water crystals?

It takes time for them to fill even a cup of water, yet alone a bucket, and you think that's their only water source? The wells are just there for decoration?

Fire crystals are basically magic lighters for cigarettes and lamps.

You don't see any crystals or magic in the agriculture either. Most of the crysis is because the world is losing farmland.

I feel like all these points just reinforce my main point.

You just assume that the "normal" infrastructure is probably already in place when everything you've been shown in the story runs counter to that. The fact that people absolutely need crystals and magic is repeatedly established, and it's ONLY the Hideaway that is trying to circumvent this.

It's most definitely not a luxury, if the game's story is to be believed.

Be careful you don't make excuses for it.

Do you honestly think a bunch of people raised from birth to be slaves are going to revolt against entire armies led by Dominants who are basically nukes? What are a bunch of Bearers going to do against something like Titan or Odin? Theyre just regular people who can cast magic without a crystal.

Or to put it more simply, what's to prevent a bearer from putting their hand against their master's head and hitting the Broil setting?

Those are like the mildest complaints

The numbers don't seem to be in their favor, the magical power doesn't seem big enough to put on a fight against some armed and trained guardsman, and knowing that using this magic power puts on the curse on you doesn't help either.

And they are not cheap in cruelty either. It's a pure dictatorship of fear. It's like asking why people in North Korea are not revolting.

I guess I needed to stress this, huh?

Like I'm having fun with the gameplay absolutely and I'm invested in the characters and where the story is going.

I seem to recall it a major plot point when (end of act 1 spoilers) the first Mothercrystal is destroyed. People are not using these for luxury or symbolic purposes, or else they wouldn't have built their entire nations around them, and they wouldn't mine them incessantly.

They cater to the outrage culture market. Thats been their thing for awhile now

EDIT: No need anymore, now I remember some flavor text of some ore that's supposed to need 4 bearers to hit the necessary smelting temperature.
