Three days after release, this game still has 0 professional reviews. I feel like this is unprecedented for a Nintendo game.

Dan Ryckert did a stream on Friday night and played some of this, and it has an up to 100 player mode that you can use smartphones to control like Jackbox. So Dan started up a game and a bunch of viewers jumped in.

crazy thing is, it seems to be designed with the intention that all players are in the same room. It was working alright for a bit, but when it got to the third minigame, the set-up was like this is ninja, all players on the left team should surround the defending player

how delusional were the developers that they thought there would ever be 100 people in the same place willing to play this shit

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67pT2fP7lgQ yeah it definitely feels like a game made specifically just to be played in the promo video made for it and absolutely no other scenario since the game's release

clearly they should've gotten 100 reviewers to play instead and bribed each of them

Would the game be any good if it was possible to get 100 people in the same room like at a convention or something? Or would the mini games still be bad under ideal conditions?

Consider an ideal room of 100 people.

I mean, I could imagine getting 100 people to play at like a school or church or other group event (family reunion?). A bit of a niche demographic to target though

based on what I saw, they seemed mostly bad regardless.

the first minigame tricked everyone into thinking maybe the game could be good. Basically it showed you a color swatch, then players used their phone camera to try to take a picture of something with a color as similar as possible to the swatch. Its a kind of entertaining little hunt, but had a flaw where some players just straight up took a picture of the swatch itself on the screen which breaks the game pretty badly.

after that was the long, boring auction game. no good in any circumstance.

then the braindead quiz game. Also bad.

then the ninja game, which has one team use their phone to throw ninja stars at one player on the other team who tries to deflect them with a joycon (some games require one player to use a joycon). Not terrible, but in a 100 player situation it leaves 49 people just waiting around while their one player defends

next was a completely insane game called UFO. I think was a rhythm game in theory, but it was confusing and left everyone with sore arms. Latency from not being in the same room may have complicated it. Check it out at like 1:44 on the stream here:

Twitch.tv/videos/1860243227

then the wheel landed on the auction again and everyone was like no. and Dan let it run out in the background while he talked about something else

then the wheel landed on ninja again and he just shut the Switch off

so yeah probably just bad.

also the minigames I saw were almost all terrible. One that basically worked remotely was a sort of lamer version of Bidiots from Jackbox (which was already not a good Jackbox game). Another was a quiz game, but the questions were all true or false and absolutely braindead easy. Literally one was this sport involves gliding on ice: ice skating.

anyway, the minigame is chosen by a wheel spinning each round and the fifth or sixth one ended up being the auction game again so Dan just shut off his Switch. im Sure theres other modes we didnt see, but the game seems bad.
The other viable game (almost more viable via internet than in real life) that we saw on his stream was one where you had to use your phone to take a picture that was closest to the color shown on screen. In real life I assume everyone would just take a picture of the same thing since you only have like fifteen seconds, so at least playing online everybody is in a different house to find different things. The big problem that ultimately killed it was that stream viewers could just pause the stream and take a photo of the game's screen when it's showing the color to begin with.

damn, must have posted that like two seconds after I started typing the same thing

Oh, that looked miserable. Even just calibrating the game took a long time.

The games seems to be in a weird spot lengtwise and set-upwise between a Jackbox thing and a Mario Party minigame. The explanation is closer to Jackbox length but the actual activity isnt long enough to justify the time spent onboarding.

The first one did alright IIRC but it also came out with the Switch. I got it because it was like one of three games to get, played it for an hour and never again lol. I'm not surprised people don't particularly care for another.
