Just beat it today. 8/10 game for me. Definitely has its issues, but the highs far outweigh the lows, and when it's firing on all cylinders the game is just magic.

People who play single player RPGs dont typically play MMOs.

No, the game is quite stellar. I'm far into it and still think it's a really great time

I mean MGS 4 has a 70 minute long cutscenes, with over 8 hours of cutscenes in total, which makes it one of the longest movies ever made

Personally, I think the game is way too easy for me to enjoy. Like, FF has never been a particularly challenging series.

But something about an easy action game just feels more boring. FF7r was easy too, but the character swapping antics made battles more fun. And Barrett being a hype machine helped a lot.

I definitely felt way more engaging play from the demo. But I dont think Im far into the game yet, so Ill see. I only just got Jill in my party.

7r was absolutely final fantasy. Hell even 15 had tons of final fantasy themes, just modernized

That said the game does have pacing issues. It hits some of the series highest highs multiple times....only to experience some of the lowest lows multiple times as well

Regular mob difficulty is non existent. Very light rpg mechanics are its other flaws. But the overall presentation of the story and top production quality of it all really demands at least a 9. I can see why reviewers were conflicted. Theres an even more amazing game buried there between the lame quests and simple customization mechanics.

I still loved it. Really made you want to keep playing to see what happens next like previous entries did.

Hell, I'd argue the setting itself is more classic Final Fantasy than anything, but yes, it does delve more into the usual "man vs. gods" thing towards the end.

yes they do lol
xi got slept on because it came out at a time before mmos really took off, which wasnt until around wrath of the lich king about 5 years later

I dont have the statistics on it, but based on my experience, when youre playing an MMO you cant play anything else, for years, there simply isnt time unless youre a student or rich. Most of the RPG fans I know avoid MMOs precisely because of how addictive and time intensive they are.

Hell, I got pulled into Diablo IV with a friend and havent been able to play anything else since it came out. Being an adult sucks in some ways.

I love the game but it does have some glaring issues.

Some of the slower parts and side stuff is so boring.

Crafting and hunt stuff needs to be easier, bigger, and the game would really benefit from some quality dlc.

Really depends on what you want to get from it and which ones you play. FFXIV is very casual. Some stuff takes grinding and there is some harder high level content that can take some time. But there's casual stuff too, a big focus on the story, and Yoshi-P encourages taking breaks. Some MMOs are extremely grindy, yeah. XI was like that.
