They act like if you dont sob like a baby at every track then you didnt understand his super deep subtext. I can think hes hilarious and witty without being like OMG HE GETS ME .

Was really into his stuff like 10 years ago and I had a lot of fun at one of his shows. Been a while since I thought about this guy. His special during the pandemic had a few good bits but I missed his live stuff.

Solid, got some reasonable depth but mostly just comedy

My sister showed me one of his videos and i didn't really like it. Don't fully remember why but I think it gave me "I am very smart" vibes.

Musical comedy (if that's the right term for what he does) always comes across as a novelty act to me, and while the stuff of his I've seen was reasonably funny, I probably wouldn't seek it out if I were looking for comedy.

That's completely understandable but funnily also very wrong, it's very clever stuff but never talking down

He's not a very good singer and it kinda detracts from his music/comedy

I love Bo's comedy (Inside is a masterpiece; I have no idea what the fuck you guys are going on about) but I'm more interested in him as a filmmaker after his incredible debut with Eighth Grade (not to mention his roles in the fucking fantastic films The Big Sick and Promising Young Woman).

Bos Country Song is basically modern country in a nutshell.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Bo Burnham. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical music most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Bo Burnham truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate it.. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Bo's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Bo Burnham tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

That's funny considering it was probably the original form of comedy. Jesters would often sing or play music and a lot of songs sung by minstrels tried to infuse comedy.

And when I say minstrels I mean the old European kind, not the ones who gave us blackface.

And that's just in regards to European history, there's probably other, older histories I'm unaware of.

I don't think age makes it less of a novelty act, relative to modern standards. I also think comics who use puppets are gimmicky, and I'm pretty sure puppetry has been around for thousands of years.

That said, it's just my personal taste. I love music, but I don't enjoy musical theater, or when shows randomly decide to do musical episodes, and having jokes sung rather than spoken doesn't do much for me.
