Problem is that most critics just review games like they are an art instead of a game

Nobody attacked them. We just ignore them, as the entire industry is about as useful as a winter coat in July. if you want game reviews, you go to independent reviewers or outlets, period.

You made a topic where youve done nothing but perform mental gymnastics to defend incompetence and bad reviews and are for some reason butt hurt when people repeatedly pointed out that no one handcuffed them to their desks.

No-one should be attacked obviously, but the writer (and editor who approved the article) should have been fired. But no, it seems that you can publish whatever you like in this industry in the pursuit of cheap clicks. Yes, Kotaku is the worst of the bunch but Polygon, IGN, Eurogamer, they all have this problem.

Real journalists would do research into the subject matter they're writing on before starting work on a topic.

Every AAA game is either a 8, 9, 10.

This is what annoys me the most. They obviously try to get on the good side of AAAs and only say something negative if the game is downright broken Ala cyberpunk.

For example BOTW has a shit ton of flaws even if it is a good game yet critics claimed it to be the GOAT...really just because it was the first open world Zelda.

Then TOTK comes out with vast improvements to the formula and of course reviewers give that game near perfect scores as well. TOTK is a clear upgrade to BOTW but they are scored the same because of biased fan boys scoring anything Zelda as perfect.

It's not just "one" article.

For every somewhat decent article out there you will find dozens of bullshit articles. Sometimes wrong, sometimes clickbait with 0 content put into hundreds of deceiving words filled with dozens of adds, sometimes outright lying.

And honestly, I wont hold back with saying that.

Sure, personal attack unreleated to that is wrong and should never be done, and it's also wrong to search for bullshit articles just to harrass them, but if I see bullshit, I don't see an issue with others calling it out.

Personally I'm not doing that because I'm neither active on these boards, nor on twitter, so I rarely get in touch with this anyways.

A insignificant number of people saying stupid things is no reason to defend or prop up gaming journalism or gaming journos who constantly say stupid things.

My biggest problem with the industry of games journalism is its parasitic relationship with the games industry itself, which in a lot of instances has the journos serve as glorified mouthpieces.

Each site wants to have their review up first and most visible.
They each want review copies.
The industry doles out review copies at their discretion, and they've been known to delay or refuse review copies to sites they don't believe will review their product favorably.
Thus the system of every AAA game gets no less than an 8.

Also numerical reviews are a garbage concept. I stopped writing reviews for GameFAQs ages ago because there was no intent to allow for not using numbers.

I have far more respect for the individual journos who try to push against that system, even if it means a game I like gets panned.
