At this point they should just have Mario Kart 8 be the Smash Bros. Ultimate of the series and just keep adding new tracks and characters to it.

I'd be fine with 8 being the new baseline and just getting waves every few years, unless 9 brings back the Double Dash idea

Yeah im trying to think of what more I could really ask from a Mario Kart game that this one isnt giving me. The Double Dash mechanic is cool but im okay without it.

The number of tracks will be a real downside unless they do an Ultimate and include a bunch of if not all tracks from 8 + new ones + ones remade not in 8.

One thing it could do easily is give a much better single player experience. Bring back the challenges from DS, maybe add a fun and silly RPG story mode where you can upgrade your kart (they already have separate stats and such per piece), stuff like that. There's more they can do to differentiate itself from 8 but really, the number of tracks is gonna be the big deal.

Kart 8 is getting the GTA5 milking treatment

I'd rather see the next kart game be a Smash Kart or something and that MK8 continues to get support on the switch successor

FFS all the "new tracks they're adding to MK8 is mostly just remade old trackas from older mario Karts, with a few completely new tracks sprinkled about .

Yes. The booster course tracks are awful, and if anything, they make it worse by filling up the three slots online with lame tracks. If a new release pushes them to put as much effort into new tracks as they did for base MK8 then I'd gladly welcome MK9

Im struggling to think of something wrong with it or something missing. Ive had hundreds and hundreds of amazing hours with friends and family. Plus now that theyve literally doubled the size of the game I really cant ask much more out of them.

and my ass remains chapped that they added all this content to the switch version of a game I already owned for Wii U, and hence previously had no reason to spend an additional $60 buying a second time

I would love for Mario Kart 9 to happen already. Mario Kart 8 originally launched in 2014, so they've milked it for long enough.

Things they could do: Move on from the gravity gimmick, refine the engine more, add more customization options, add more power ups, etc.

I love the gravity gimmick. It makes tracks a lot more interesting

The big thing wrong with it is the addition of 2 items when the OG was designed with just one in mind. It makes the game far more hectic than it needed to be. The original courses were not designed for this and it suffers imo. I've played 425 hours on the Wii U and currently at around 250 on the Switch.

Hell yeah we need an MK9. Cramming a bunch of old shit into MK8 doesn't mean the series can't be improved on anymore.

Idk but I can play the game for like 10 minutes at a time. Everything is basically unlocked the beginning. The game needs a diddy kong style campaign. Hub worlds, cool map, bosses

It does allow them to do a lot with track design, but it really doesn't change much in the moment to moment gameplay. Aside from the wheels changing and being able to boost by bumping into things, everything else is exactly the same. Movement doesn't change, items behave exactly the same way, etc. I get why they did it that way for the sake of keeping the gameplay simple. It just feels like they could have done more with it.

Which is why I feel that there needs to be something more. I can't think of any track specific gimmicks outside of what Sonic did, with changing between karts, boats and planes mid race. And I don't know if Nintendo would want to copy their competition that directly.

They could bring back character specific power ups like they had in double dash. That would add more item variety, and if they're balanced, would encourage players to try different characters.

Yeah same. I already have 8 for Wii U and I bought the dlc for that version. To play the new tracks, I'd have to pay 60 bucks for the game and like 15 or 25 bucks or whatever for the new tracks themselves. For a game that I already paid for twice. I don't know what they should have done to make it less shitty for Wii U players, but double dipping here feels like a ripoff.

Nah it doesn't and it isn't dramatically different. Having Mirror / 200cc in online, a fixed battle mode, two items (awful change) and allowing modifications to character / kart between matches are really the only changes. Then a new character and kart (inkling and splattermobile or whatever). Otherwise it's the same game. The new DLC certainly makes it a lot better now, though.

The big reason I ended up getting the Switch version is cause, well, the Wii U is dead. I get full lobbies all the time without any wait whatsoever which was the big draw, and I haven't gotten any hackers unlike the Wii U one. That, and having mirror mode in the online helps mix it up a bit more than the Wii U only capping at 150 period. I still hate 200cc though.

It's definitely worth it and complaining that an updated release is getting new DLC is silly. If you want it, then go get the Switch version as it's been almost 10 years. But don't complain that the Wii U isn't getting anything either as that is long dead and gone.
