I've seen the anonymous murmurs that the Biden team is disappointed with Harris, and that she has shied away from the national spotlight because she isn't really up for this. If that's the case, I really hope she doesn't run in 2028 just because "it's her time," because we've all seen how that goes.

There's not a lot of great choices to replace Kamala tbh. It'd look really bad if he chose a man to replace her. And I'm not sure there are that many good male candidates anyway. It feels like the Democratic party simply hasn't built any stars, and the ones they have in the waiting would be better off serving longer in congress and/or have no chance of winning the nomination because the party hates progressives. We need someone with the charisma of Obama that the establishment doesn't hate, and I don't think we have that anywhere. If we did, I don't think Biden or Hillary would've been our candidates in 2016 and 2020.

This was an exception for VP's and very much not the norm.

Also depending on the story it may have actually been an accident that couldn't be taken back.

Also Manchin refusing to renew the Child Tax Credit.

But yeah, standing by my Biden odds for now. As for VPs, Biden replacing Harris would be such an own goal regardless of our actual feelings about her. Even for Whitmer you're getting the ~optics~ of switching from a black woman to a white woman. It's just needlessly causing problems with a vital component of the base. And I say that as someone who has repeatedly been high on Whitmer's future - but the path for her would be to run in 2028 (against Harris if necessary), not becoming Biden's VP.

I don't think the former means much just because of how it's phrased. Virtually all Trump voters will be yes, no while plenty of Biden voters will say yes, yes or no, no. Might be more meaningful if it just asked about the ages without giving candidate names.

Yeah a poll like this that split results by party line is worthless. I mean, it's still worthless, but even MORE so.

Pulling numbers out of my ass, it probably went like:

Dems: 60-40 think Biden is too old
Repubs: 90-10 think Biden is too old

Dems: 60-40 think Trump is too old
Repubs: 90-10 think Trump ISN'T too old

The "too old" poll is of no interest to me.

Better job responding to a national crisis: Trump 51% Biden 44%
This one is absolutely fucking comedic in the "if I don't laugh about it I'm going to fucking cry because wtf" sense though.

We've seen how Donald Trump handles a national crisis as president (And I would say it played a significant role in him not getting reelected in 2020). And 51% of voters are literally, in 2023, like "Hm, yes, more of that please"

I don't think Trump voters think about a pandemic first when they think of a national crisis. And I think a lot of it is just people being skeptical about Biden's age. If Biden actually ran against Trump he'd probably just get a ton of votes for not being Trump again.

I guess this is throwing a monkey wrench into my whole idea of Trump's controversy lingering, but I find it at least as easy to believe people are just really down on Biden and that whoever is the Democratic nominee has a good chance of winning the next election just by virtue of not being Trump. And tbf now the whole deal about Trump's attempts to subvert democracy are probably taking precedence in the public over his poor response to the pandemic, and in a sense I'm willing to give Trump the benefit of the doubt there just because America would have been hit badly no matter what. Doesn't excuse all his other BS though, like disbanding the White House's pandemic response team because he didn't want people sitting around twiddling their thumbs, dismissing it as a "blue state" problem for the longest time just because that's where it hit hardest initially (making it clear he doesn't care about the lives of people who won't vote for him), and then dancing around the pandemic in public.

The people needed it and then damn near every Conservative acted like the general population got enough money to save and live off it without having to do anything for 1-2 years when most people ran out of the money immediately paying for living expenses. Yeah I had to look up to make sure the information was correct. Also in light of the recent "controversy" surrounding Rotten Tomatoes people are acting like it's proof that Disney was bribing critics all along when nothing even remotely like that was brought up, which is why I brought up the whole thing about Gamergate. In fact RT itself seems to be largely blameless and it's mostly the culture that has built around it which is awfully easy to game, which frankly I already knew.

If Gamergate is apparently the only thing standing against unethical journalism, I'll take unethical journalism. Not to mention it's interesting how pro-GG people seem to be primarily concerned with "identity politics" over any kinds of other problems with ethics in journalism (e.g. the fact Rotten Tomatoes is owned by Universal's parent Comcast and that WB also has a minority stake in RT, representing massive conflicts of interest given both those studios are obviously in the business of making movies themselves). Then again I'm also learning how willfully ignorant people like these are and that not everyone is a Doug Walker or Mike Nelson who will apologize for saying something that rubs people the wrong way.
