(granted it went on too long because of typical OP anime but not by as much as some think imo)

I just thought the usual OP anime laziness was sad here. I didn't need the same bouncing shot for a 3rd time. Instead we could have spent a few more seconds on bouncing back the blast breath. Or on Luffy's cartoon reactions to Kaido.

There's nothing more terrifying than fighting someone you just killed and he's ignoring the laws of physics and using you as a jump rope. And he's doing this casually and laugh at your attempts to hurt him.

Oh yeah endings in one piece again, I liked that.

Next episode should be really good, the way they used flashbacks here and there and reused some animation made it feel like a warm up to the real thing.

Mushoku Tensei moves to a school setting, and now it suddenly has a regular anime OP for the first time in it's existence, 30ish episodes in. I don't like the implication that it's going to settle down here!

Today I watched Princess Mononoke. The production values were great, as is standard for a Ghibli movie. I also appreciated that it handled the usual industry vs nature plot with more nuance than I've usually seen. I really hated Eboshi and Jigo, though, so the story trying to chart a morally grey middle ground mostly just disappointed me. "Hey Eboshi, the town full of innocent people you supposedly love is under attack." "lol I don't care, I need to focus on killing this benevolent forest god" man, fuck her. She deserved way more than just losing an arm. I liked the wolf girl, and the main dude was cool even though he was a little too perfect and kinda boring. Still, this movie was merely just "okay".

I'm probably not going to watch every single one of the Ghibli movies. I'm at seven right now, plus Only Yesterday which I dropped. I'd appreciate it if anyone could let me know which other ones are hidden gems so that I don't miss them. At a glance, none of the others except maybe Nausicaa have caught my eye. I also absolutely refuse to watch Grave of the Fireflies. I'm already depressed enough just from my regular life.

It's funny to see mha fans complain about getting a movie. I guess the idea is they syphon budget from the show but I wonder if it works that way.

S2 of Classroom of the Elite done, and I uh...need something lighter right now. The re-watch of Ascendance of a Bookworm can't come at a better time.

They announced a Sengoku Youko anime. I love Mizukami's manga, and I feel like this one might have a little more of a chance than Biscuit Hammer of being a good adaptation.

Sengoku Youku is a much longer series than his usual work, but it also lends itself to a more shounen action vibe so maybe they think it has marketing potential. It's not high on my list of Mikami series, but that doesn't actually mean much considering who were talking about.

At the very least if it's a mid adaptation it won't hurt as much as them fucking up, say, Spirit Circle.

Started rewatching Ascendance of a Bookworm. Given where the series goes in short order, it's fun retreading the simple fun of learning about the show's world and especially the characters. It's not quite Spice and Wolf when it comes to "a show about a medieval world and much ado about nothing that just works," but it's that fun and enjoyable solid show that never drops in quality.

My understanding is he went from Supervisor to the writer after the previous writer left, but another guy has been doing the drawing the entire time

Also I'm afraid for whatever they've done with Sarada. They were already drawing her somewhat provocatively as a 12 year old and now we're skipping ahead 4 years to 16 years old so who knows what they're gonna do

Kishi's assistants were the main workers on Boruto until the writer allegedly pissed a higher up off and was removed from the manga(the story at the time was he committed a taboo). Kodachi was the writer, and Ikemoto is still the artist.

Kishi gave them the reigns(some speculate) as a thank you for their assistance on Naruto and Shippuden. They never had the chance to make their own products being wrapped up in always assisting Kishi, so this was his blessing to get their own experience and improved resume, so to speak. I believe Kodachi still has a role in the anime though.

Just saw Bleach put the fucking end credits on screen over one of the most anticipated scenes in this adaptation lol.

second gear 5 episode was everything i wanted and more. i was smiling the whole way through :)

usually it's not like that

It's possible to make credits over the content work. Lots of shows do it. Re:Zero did it like 80% of the time, it lets you stuff that extra minute and a half into and episode (or in Re:Zero's case 3 minutes because they also played the OP credits over the show a ton too).

But you gotta like....plan for that content to be stuff where the credits aren't disrupting the experience. AMV's gonna be in shambles at a move like this.

Keeping with the same example when Re:Z wanted to end an episode on a big moment or cliffhanger, they play the credits earlier than usual and just keep the episode running. IIRC there was even an instance where the episode went on for a solid 5 or 6 minutes after the credits!

I'm pretty busy this month, so an actual effort to catch up on the last few seasons will have to wait. I've started a few airing shows though, and I may as well give early thoughts.

Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts- I'm about seven episodes in. It sounded like a "Beauty and the Beast" style romance. In particular, I'd hoped it would be like Kakuriyo, another anime I really loved that was also about a human woman in a fantastical location in a quasi-romance with a monter dude. Sadly, Sacrificial Princess has been pretty disappointing so far. Almost everything feels like it's happening too easily and too cleanly. The main couple fell in love almost right away, so it wasnt satisfying. Their love is also very surface-level and not engaging at all. They both have such strong devotion to each other, but their relationship wasn't built up at all so it's hard to tell where that devotion even came from. Normally I'd just try to enjoy the cute moments between them, but the story keeps throwing contrived hurdles in their way so they mostly just angst about everything. It's like it's hitting the worst of both worlds, not written well enough to be engaging but also not cute enough to be endearing. I don't hate this anime, but I'm struggling to care about anything in it so far.

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead- An anime about how working in a Japanese company is so shitty that a literal zombie apocalypse is preferable. Based solely on some of the companies I've seen in anime, that sounds about right! It's a dark comedy basically, contrasting the horrors of zombies against the main dude having the time of his life now that he doesn't need to work anymore. Sadly, I think it's struggling to find the right balance between the darkness and the comedy. I can forgive the ultra-bleak first episode because it needed to establish how crappy his life was, but even the episodes after that have mostly just been bleak too. I really thought I would love this based off the premise, but it just seems kind of meh so far. I'm only three episodes in, though. I'm hoping it gets better once more characters join the cast and hopefully build a fun dynamic with the carefree main dude.
