This week's JJK I thought I was watching End of Evangelion at times

I'm still a few seasons behind, but I finally finished Giant Beasts of Ars from Winter. It showed a lot of promise early on. I liked all of the main characters. They filled their roles well and came together into a fun group. I enjoyed watching them fly around on a hovership slaying giant monsters while learning more about each other and about the weird fantasy world. The action scenes weren't spectacular or anything, but they were fine.

Sadly, the anime fell apart towards the end. It tried to stuff too much plot into too little time, and it wound up leaving several huge plot threads dangling with no resolution. Like, this might be one of the most unsatisfying endings I've ever seen. It wouldn't be so bad if this was an adaptation of something where I could go to the tvtropes page and read what happens in the manga or whatever. This is an anime original, though, and there's been no announcement of another season or a gacha game to continue the story or... anything. I don't know why they would end a story like this with no promise that it'll ever go anywhere. It's super disappointing. Ah well.

The best part about this anime was that there was a group of people who all wore different animals on their head and had some wonderful animal puns in their dialogue. The cat one was a major character and she was purrfect.

Looks like SHAFT is hard up for cash.

Today I chose a show at random and watched After School Dice Club, an anime about cute girls playing board games. I thought it was really good! My family has always been into board games, so it was neat seeing them try various different ones. The only one featured on the show that I've ever personally played was Blokus, but they made a few other ones look fun enough that I want to try them someday. It was also neat seeing lots of familiar games in the background of various shops or cafes (though I must say, Pandemic Legacy is a spectacularly poor choice for a board game cafe. That game irreversibly changes as you play it, including drawing on stuff and putting one-time-use stickers on the board. No other customers would want to pick that one up after the first time it was used).

I liked all the characters. They had unique personalities that always shone through in how they played the various games. Midori was experienced and strategic while Aya usually rushed ahead without a plan. There was also a neat subplot where one of the girls invented her own board game, which is something I tried a few times in high school (and, man, did those games I made ever suck...). I also really liked how much depth the characters had. They each explored their doubts and passions in neat ways, especially Midori embracing her dream of creating board games. Shy main girl Miki had some good growth too. Overall, this was a nice and fun anime.

Dice Club was such a nice seasonal anime. The characters were fun and the games looked interesting. Favorite part was when MC spent a random day with the yankee-looking friend.

I read that manga just a few days ago, at least what was translated as I think a lot of it isn't. Pretty fun.

Oh, I remember watching that one when it aired. It was fun enough. Don't remember too much about it though, honestly.

Probably just went way over budget so the Kizu compilation is a stimulus release.

Started the Nier Automata adaptation. So cool, and those ending puppet things. So funny.

I have just been informed by a friend that FLCL Grunge came out yesterday.

Sure feels like something I should have at least known about!

I haven't watched any FLCL outside of the original series and I intend to keep it that way

I was just updating my Fall tv & anime calendar yesterday and was wondering about that, thx!

...calendar is looking a little more barren with the ongoing strike, more tv & anime catch-up opportunities. Probably gotta do the Konosuba dub, I feel like I need some (any) comedy and joy in my life.

Fall is a nutty season for me. Frieren, Apothecary Diaries, Ancient Magus Bride 2nd cour, Dead Mount Death Play 2nd cour, that Vampire Princess show, Stardust Telepath, and Shy. That should be the minimum. A show per day is pretty good for me.

Lots of stuff to look forward to in fall, it's actually surprising!

Read the first chapter of the new Jump series Mamayuyu because Fujimoto told me too.

Good stuff!

Why does fall have to have interesting shows? Taking this season off has been kind of nice.

If you mean the upcoming weekend, yes.

After watching 7 episodes, I think I'm just going to drop Galaxy Angel. The school mission was pretty sweet, and Mint was really cute in the theme park episode, but the rest of it just isn't funny and doesn't offer anything else.

Besides, with next season coming up, I'm going to try and catch up on The Faraway Paladin

I like The Faraway Paladin. More of an....inoffensive way, it's more of a comfort watch. Sometimes that's just what you want.

Bang Dream MyGo wrapped up today, great show. I had a hard time getting into it initially with the awkward 3D animation but once I got used to that the story was totally good. Tomori was a strong character, and I had a real soft spot for Anon's transparent scheming. Excited for the announced S2 even if I'm not totally sure how far it'll take its new focus.

The ghosting in JJK has been pretty obnoxious.

Is the reason they don't stream it without those effects just because they want a reason for you to buy the blu ray? Because I have to imagine they animate it normally first, and then add the effects later.

It's an extremely bad and moronic attempt at seizure prevention that stems back to the Porygon fiasco. It's unlikely to ever change because Japan is extremely stubborn about stuff like this, lol.

what do you guys think about the new trigun? i saw it was on hulu so watched episode 1 and it... was whatever. i seemed to remember the 90s anime being much better, even though i only saw it once so long ago.

It gets better once Wolfwood shows up. It eschews the dumb comedy of the first OG cour, playing more how the last few eps were very serious.

I love the first episode of Trigun. One of the best MC introductions. Super strong goofballs are my jam.

Thing is, the first half being stupid strengthens the second half intensity. Stampede goes full dour, and takes time to get its head on straight.

It isn't helped that Milly's replacement is "too cool for this shit" old dude who never amounts to anything. Thank God Milly is probably a given for season 2.

It's nice seeing this from someone who knew next to nothing about the franchise before watching this anime. And it's a sentiment that it can be watched as a standalone even if you would not get some of the references made (but at the least, you'll know who the girl in Roba's Discord pfp is). Actually because this season takes place during an upcoming timeskip on the EN version of the game, even the people who do play the game and are watching without clairvoyance on future content would be lost on a few references to the game.

Anyways, I thought the same. The anime has a lot of drama, but there's a good reason behind all of them in a very human way. I ended up liking all of the main cast, but Tomori and Anon were still my favorite.

I ended up liking this more than any prior seasons of BanG Dream, but that's not too high of a bar. Helped that the focus was primarily on 1 group instead of splitting across multiple bands.

yeah i fucking loved the early goofy episodes of trigun, and it made the contrast in tone halfway through the series all the starker. oh well!

Trigun manga is perfect. You got your goofiness at the beginning but it is mostly pretty serious with some great fights.

It is one of the tougher manga to tell what's going on sometimes. Nightow likes to draw speech bubbles with no tails to direct you to who's talking, and their mouths often don't open to even show you.

just watched episode 2 of the new trigun and i think it's okay enough to conitnue. the OP and ED are nice songs. i don't like the heavily computerized animation; it looks like a pixar movie and i would legitimately prefer just 90s quality hand-drawn. but i guess it's high-quality.

meryl and the milly replacement are definitely big zeroes so far though.
