I'm in a maga state and shits gotten bad real quick.

Trans care obliterated, don't say gay maybe passed?, no abortion, etc etc.

I teach for a public community college and these laws are starting to effect my classroom even.

I'll survive for one more year, but I know which way the wind is blowing and I'd be surprised if conditions were acceptable in 2 years.

So I'm gonna try to leave, but it's not easy and it's really depressing. Colleges typically only hire for August or Jan starts, so it'll be months and months of applying, most likely, while simultaneously pumping out some publications. All while somehow getting references that won't fuck up my job b/c they know I'm looking elsewhere...

I don't care what state at this point. Something with women's reproductive rights enshrined in the state constitution would be a nice start. Cali, CO, NY... I'm not picky. Maryland? Illinois? Massachusetts, New Jersey, AZ? Is Az okay? Nevada? Idk. Oregon, Washington, Hawai'i all good... I'm sure there are more... How's VA?

I'm trying to break it down into smaller goals and am dedicating the next month to getting all my shit together and working on publications instead of playing games in my free time.

I found a job in South Carolina, but I don't think that would be much better.

Septembers main goal will be to send out some applications, mostly as practice, but keep up the job search and be tuned into the job listings. Goal of 1 app per week.

January 1st my priority will be in job applications, trying for at least 5 a week, and I won't stop until August of 2024.

What state are you currently in?

New Mexico is surprisingly solid on that front.

I'd recommend Albuquerque or Santa Fe, though, maybe Los Alamos or Socorro.

The other larger cities (Las Cruces, Roswell, Farmington) and the rural areas (especially east/SE) are a bit more MAGAty.

Shits so wild I don't even want to say what state. Imagine it's Florida, it might as well be at this point.

I live in Phoenix AZ but hard to recommend it as the wages vs cost of living is pretty poor these days. I can only afford it as I leveraged to the hilt to buy a home when they were still affordable and thankfully that has paid off for me.

Social attitudes are kind of all over the place depending on the part of the city. Tempe and the surrounding areas (especially East Phoenix) are more liberal and tolerant. Places more in the outskirts like Queen Creek and San Tan Valley are big into MAGA.

You dont like what state you are living in, you can apply for a relocation...lets say grant. Then with federal help, you get a bit of financial help to leave. Wanna go to a blue or red state go for it...

Maybe add a tax incentive to do so...

There would be some conditions like say you can only apply once every 5 years, need to find some form of employment,etc...

if want to choose this... the west coast has very expensive rent. east side sucks because of the conservative's (no offense). southern oregon is better living wise.

I'm in one too, going to be getting out next year. You can do it. No different than any other move. Get outta there and don't look back. Set a goal, hang in there, and get it done. You got this.

I want to get out too, but Ohio has this really nasty trick where they keep the cost of living just cheap enough that you become accustomed to being too poor to move anywhere else.

Really though, I was in the military, this is the 10th state i've lived in. It's always been scary to pick up and go, but i've never regretted it. If you aren't happy, if shit is going downhill fast, get out of there and start somewhere new. It seems hard, intimidating, a lot to do, but when it all falls into place, you are going to be a lot happier. Get it in motion and make it happen, things aren't going to improve there anytime soon. You got this.

Did some research and Georgia came up as an affordable blue state. I am also reading that Baltimore, Maryland is a great place. Some are also suggesting Virginia. Hopefully one of those three will take you in.

I really would not call Georgia a blue state just yet.

You can get out. I grew up in a football city in a red state. I didnt fit in and wanted to make a change, so I got out. They can have it and I hope they enjoy it (not being sarcastic). I feel bad for anyone who is stuck in a place where they dont fit in. My friend from Baton Rouge doesnt fit in there and he is actually packing to move up here with me and my family.

Heres the thing about blue states: there are always people coming and going so you can find leases that need to be picked up and you can also find a room in a house if youre okay living with strangers. They are overpopulated and overpriced, but I dont regret my decision. They are extremely picky about renting and selling to people, though, so make sure not to get arrested or they might refuse to rent to you. Minimum wage is high, so you can actually bankroll some money working a crappy job if you rent a cheap room or live with family.

I've looked into it in 2016 but I couldn't find anything. Japan is gatekept by some skeezy companies. I don't think France would take me. I know Canada doesn't want Americans.... I speak French but that's not enough.

I teach English, btw. phd but a lot of good that's done me.
