3 is also normal for dog owner roommates, but I hate it so much. 5 is the clear winner.

2 is completely fine and even 4 is ok if she left you alone.

I know it's petty but voting for #1. You can argue #2 is just bad judgment/drunkenness, #3 is moreso a dog issue, #4 implies some other underlying issues there, and #5 is certainly the worst situation but if the poll is really "worst roommate" rather than situation then that's similar to the dog situation, where it's not the roommate herself.

But yeah, #1 is just such a shitty thing to do, and when you're roommates with someone and sharing common areas you need to be able to trust the people you're living with and that completely breaks it? Makes my blood boil just thinking about it.

I guess my main question is whether he went into your room to take it, or if you left it in a common area which he later took and brought into his room. Either case is unacceptable but the former is certainly even moreso.

I wouldn't say #5 only because she let an abuser live with her, a lot in part because it probably wasn't entirely her choice. Like what happens if she says "No, don't move in with me?"

I would say #3 because if you have a dog that can't control it's bowels/they don't take it out enough, you have to live in your own place with that because what the fuck how do you subject other people to that?

Where's the option for the abusive boyfriend? Cause he sounds the worst of all of them, given that you said he lived with her, it must mean that he lived with you as well unless she had let him live with her somewhere else.

The girl who let her abusive boyfriend live with her sounds very uncomfortable and probably dangerous, but she's an abuse victim and from what I know sometimes it's hard to be aware of her situation while she's deep in the relationship.

The doggy girl sounds very unhygienic and stanky. But it also depends on her attitude about it. If she tries to potty train the dog and always cleans up the mess, maybe it's tolerable.

The guy stealing your Xbox 360 sounds pretty shady, what else would he 'borrow' from you? And would he return it and apologize after being confronted about it? If not, man, that's probably grounds for legal action.

I voted #5, because the "bad roommate" wasn't the girl, it was the asshole she was dating. She let him live with her, which means she let him live with you too.

The mutt who wasn't housebroken has an easy fix. Just say that she doesn't immediately start rectifying the situation, you'll shoot the dog. And by "rectifying" I mean training the dog to know to go for walkies when it needs to go pee.

The Xbox thief is an asshole. Sounds about normal for college dickheads though. Hopefully he learned a lesson.

3 and 5 are the only bad roommates here, because they both are causing you to live with an extra terrible lifeform.

1 can be fixed easily with a conversation. If it goes beyond that, then it's a different scenario. But a lot of people on gaming websites are often doormats, so they won't have the conversation, and they'll just stew and let something minor bother them, while slowly resenting someone who did something small.

2 isn't an issue whatsoever, especially since the poll said "on a Tuesday", like it was a one time thing.

4 sounds like a not very enjoyable person to be around, but not comparable to 3 or 5 who make your experience miserable.

I voted 3. I know how smelly good dog owner's houses are. The dog owners with untrained dogs are even worse.

Had something similar to #1; like a day after moving in he stole the table I had in the kitchen for the microwave to use as a desk without asking. I called him out on it (I think he apologized) and didn't ask him to immediately return it since he didn't have a desk himself yet. Followed up a week later to ask when his desk was coming and he hadn't even ordered one, ostensibly planning to continue to use the stolen table indefinitely (he was an awful roommate for many other reasons).

Hmmmmm where would my roommate rank here.....

- Has almost a live-in girlfriend who has boxed me in in the driveway, and I get to hear them banging. Also has other strange women over at all hours. Saw a positive pregnancy test left out one time, when he already has a kid with another woman that she won't let him see lol. Horrifying.
- Does not know how to use basic appliances (still is putting a cap of detergent - cap included - into the washing machine even though I've told him it has an automatic dispenser. we've been at this house almost 2 years)
- Has smoked in the house multiple times despite me AND the landlord telling him not to
- Leaves food/drinks out or in the fridge long enough that it starts to rot and I usually have to throw it out
- has blasted the TV so loud from his room in the middle of the night that you can hear it everywhere in the house
- Takes fat shits and doesn't bother to use lysol spray that we have or crack a window despite me asking him to

I would say worse than the even #'s but better than the odds.

BUT I'm moving in 2 1/2 months

That doesn't make them a bad roommate.

If, instead, she was just a girl followed home by some guy who broke into the house and stole a bunch of shit and let the cat out, then that is another terrible scenario indirectly because of the roommate.

The guy who moved my Xbox in college quit after I told him to knock it off. He was bad for other reasons, but that was probably the thing that pissed me off the most.

Drunk guy would actually drink on a regular basic, and he was CONSTANTLY being loud in the middle of the night. I had to move out of that apartment because he refused to let me sleep. It definitely wasn't a one-time thing, but the night in question was definitely his worst offense.

Girl who let her abuser live her was also a nightmare roommate for many other reasons, including being loud at night, bringing a rabbit into the apartment, and just being filthy in general. She wound up being kicked out because of all the property damage.

I remember having a roommate who was always making protein shakes at 1 AM and waking us all up and we had to beg him to do it earlier and just throw it in the fridge, but he would still sometimes forget and then just apologize and still make it at 1 AM. And then he'd wake up and during showers would just be throwing up for reasons he swears wasn't because he was bulimic, even though he was very insecure about his physical appearance and dreamed of competing in body building competitions, but it was so loud in our commons area.

He was then replaced by a guy who played video games all day and never went to classes and screamed at the top of his lungs and threw controllers enough he'd have to get them replaced. One time he threw a controller from his room to the commons area that narrowly missed one of my other roommates.

I had a roommate that was the son of my landlord and one day I came home from work to find grease and wedge marks on my door. I called my landlords and asked what the fuck and the wife was saying "Oh he just heard your TV and your video games and wanted to see what you were playing, that's all!" and the husband just outright told me he's been out of rehab and he's moving his ass out now. This MF was absolutely trying to steal my shit.

I had another girl who had a pitbull that would claw up my door and would claw at my leg and tore my clothes because she refused to trim its nails.

And then the great one was when this girl brought her boyfriend to live with her for free which... whatever. He was a regular amount of annoying but he was fine. But he also had his own place to himself, but she had him stay there because??? And it became even more insane because the boyfriend brought his entire fucking family to visit for an undisclosed period of time that lasted two weeks. I'm talking sister, three kids, a grandma, and then a dog that was constantly barking and pissed off at the other dogs they already had there. And eventually I got to a breaking point where I told my landlord to fix this shit because it's absurd.

And then I had a house mate that was the dumbest SOB alive. I offered him to let him use my utensils and stuff in the kitchen when he first moved in because it was the pandemic. And he then ran with that and refused to buy himself anything months and months later after that was the normal now, and he never cleaned any of it, so I would have to constantly be on his ass about it because I had no clean utensils or plates to use. And I shared a bathroom with multiple people including him, and I was the only one to clean that bathroom and when I mentioned to him that I'm the only one to clean that bathroom, he said, "Well I wouldn't be proud of that because it looks like shit now." And I had to inform him it's because I hadn't cleaned it in a month, waiting for someone else to do it. He would also use vinegar to clean himself, so he would leave the dirty vinegar wash cloth in our bathroom and it smelled completely fucking rancid every time anyone went in and you couldn't breathe. And then he was an insufferable Elon Musk fanboy that couldn't stop talking to us about him. Overall he was a complete moron I was trapped in a house during the pandemic with him and it was awful.
