Yeah, this. Like, whether I "allow" or not is irrelevant at that point. It's probably best for both you and her to split, let her do what she wants for her last few months, and be there as a friend to her.

Edit: Oh god, I read the story. She even told him that she feels more physically compatible with the ex.

If two people are in a mutually monogamous relationship its kind of expected by both parties that the other isn't out there fucking other people, so in a situation like this "allow" isn't about control, it's about breaking a mutually agreed upon agreement.

the implications of such a request are that she continually thinks about her ex, thinks you aren't great in bed, thinks he is better than you, and just settled for you for one reason or another, that she does not care what it will do to you and your ego or your memory of her since she has nothing left to lose, and that the ex would be totally on board with sleeping with her again.

A lot of red flags there

I feel like a number of people in this topic are putting forth the same perspective in a slightly different way, and meaning the same things but arguing with people who are posting with the same intention, but everyone is getting hung up on semantics.

Lets try to boil it down to see if there are any disagreements

1. Allow is the wrong word. You do not control another human being
2. A marriage is built upon healthy communication and an understanding of boundaries
3. If sleeping with other people is a violation of boundaries established by #2, this is a problem
4. Even if it is a problem, you cannot stop another independent human being from doing anything (see #1)
5. Actual reactions to any violation of boundaries and expectations may vary

This is not about control. This is about mutual respect. If you think its pretty simple to just move on after the person you loved enough to marry decides that she wants to fuck an ex-, youre out of your mind.

Again, not at all what's being discussed here. It's the idea that women are your property when you get married. Being controlling and dictating their lives just because you think they belong to you is the issue here. You're never going to control someone and be the good person in a relationship.

Theres a difference between dictating their lives and being okay with them actively breaking the vows they took when they decided to marry you. This has nothing whatsoever to do with ownership or control. It is a reasonable expectation that when you marry someone and enter into a monogamous relationship, fucking other people is officially off the table.
