I am intrigued. My chief complaint with the movie was that there was simply too much material to cover in a feature-length film, and the vast majority of my favorite book got cut out.

Plus I'll probably be more forgiving of the various miscasts if they're just providing voicework.

So are they just remaking the 2010 film in animation? Same cast, writers, etc. Edger Wright producing. What's the point? The 2010 movie is great. Can just watch that.

Maybe if it does well they'll try to unfuck the Steam release of the game.

The source material was heavily truncated; Books 4, 5, and 6 were largely omitted from the movie. A series would likely be a more faithful adaptation by simple virtue of having more time to tell it.

I liked the movie so hopefully this is good as well.

The fact that they got the original cast back makes me so hyped.

I still love the movie don't get me wrong, but exploration of the side characters and plot elements from the graphic novels couldn't reasonably fit into the flow of a <2hr action comedy even with Edgar Wright's master class editing style.

Everybody coming back is pretty much down out of love. Cause no way the could afford that

Cool but then or now even I never really got the appeal oe hype of the series.

Read the books, saw the movie, played the games and am still kind of stumped.

This is gonna be awesome!

I'm surprised they were able to get Chris Evans and Brie Larson back for this. I figured they'd be too expensive since they're bigger names now than they were back when the movie 1st came out.

They should have done this rather than the movie.

It's fucking unreal that they got all the old cast back for this, but Michael Cera, imo, was the worst part about the movie. I could've done with him being recasted, but otherwise I'm looking forward to this.

Please understand, when they were making the movie, the books weren't finished yet. IIRC, the movie was written and finished shooting while books 5 and 6 were still being made. The movie needed an ending, and that didn't want to tease a sequel that had no guarantee of being made.

By the time the movie came out was after the books were finished and released, because it took that long for all the special effects and editing to finish making the movie. Post-production on a film like Scott Pilgrim can take a long time.

Probably just so they can have a more accurate depiction of the source material.

This does look great, tbh. Might have to jump into Netflix so I can watch it when it comes out.

Why would they replace the main actor of the main character when everyone else is the same actor from the movie too?

Probably just so they can have a more accurate depiction of the source material, since as someone said they had to cut a lot of stuff for the movie and also (IIRC) had an entirely different ending.

IIRC the final showdown and conclusion were more-or-less the same on the larger beats. It's just that a noteworthy percentage of the moviegoing audience walked away thinking that Knives was just as good if not a better match for Scott than Ramona; for a number of reasons, the books don't leave you with that ambiguity. One of those cases where you can't expect to reach the same destination when you cut out a good chunk of the journey.

The biggest difference is the time frame for the movie, it takes place over like 7 days while the comic covers more than a year. There is more material in the comic too, so we get to see Scott and Ramona go through all the ups and downs of a full relationship. Also we have a lot more focus on Scott himself and coming to terms with his history and previous relationships, a bit more of a coming of age story for him.

That's a bit why I don't like Michael Cera as Scott, he isn't supposed to be a nerd

What do you mean source material? They where made at around the same time. The movies endings heavily influenced the comics ending iirc.

Yeah thats probably a better way to put it, def a man child, but he is also charming and a bit of a lady killer (even if he isnt trying to be.)

OMalley had 3 books done and outlines for the final 3 when Wright started on the script, and they workshopped the ending together. Although sounds like the comic ending is even different than what was originally outlined and Wright was surprised.

OMalley has said that he didnt know how to end the comic properly and isnt too happy with the glow resolution and Gideon stuff. I wonder if they are gonna try and go with a modified ending for the anime? Sounds like he wants to change it and this is the perfect opportunity

Yeah, Book 6 was kinda disappointing in the plot-resolution department, so I'd be on board with the anime taking another crack at it.

Book 4 was my favorite, so as long as that gets adapted fairly well, I'll be a happy camper.
