I want a ps5, but one of the biggest dowsides is how big it is and one of the biggest upsides to my ps4 slim is how small it is.

I def am gonna get one of the 1gb xbox series s when they are cheap cheap but i have a TON of ps4 discs I would like to play when I get a PS5. I when googling i just get clickbait bs so I wondered if someone had an uncle that worked at sony who could confirm ps5 slim w\ disc drive.

Only it literally wasn't. And still isn't.

The PS5 slim will apparently have a detachable disc drive.

Because I am not a sucker who wants to pay the full 59.99 or 69.99 for those certain older released games that rarely if ever drop on price on PSN. Sometimes family or friends want to just send me a random gift/game I didn't even ask for like with my boy and returnal just showing up in the mail (only thing he asked me is that harvey birdman style "hey so did you get that thing I sent ya'?"), so the surprise of getting these is also fun.

*Checks price for PS5 demon's souls on PSN. Currently back to 69.99. Checks price on amazon...currently 39.99 new. Does the same for the last of us 1 re-remake for PS5. Currently 69.99 on PSN. 49.99 on amazon. Sees a 29.99 dollar copy with like 5.60 shipping on ebay*

Even if you rarely use discs, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the option merely existing is good. Having both is good overall.

How can anyone say this with a straight face? What part of having exclusively digital games is beneficial for the consumer? Is corporate price gouging and lack of media ownership worth the sacrifice for seamlessly switching between games without getting off the couch? I just dont understand how people find that trade off to be reasonable.

Just like someone might prefer digital download, someone else might prefer physical media. More option = good, less option = bad.

FWIW I refuse to support most digital-only storefront unless they provide DRM-free option. There's an xkcd strip about this iirc.

That's not what the leaked images say. It looks like a very permanent disc drive.

Because I'm still one of those people with friends I can interact with in real life and if I'm going over to one of their houses and we're thinking "hey it would be fun to play a video game", it's much easier for me to bring a disc than to pack up my entire fucking console and switch it out for theirs when I show up (or vice versa)

Plus the fact that you actually own it and don't have to worry about having your permission to play revoked, or not being able to boot it up if your internet is down, or simply being able to buy them cheaper on the used market -- especially in the case of first party Nintendo games, which literally never go on sale digitally in any substantial way

Or stores that run a "buy two get one free" or similar sale that you never see on a digital storefront

Are you talking about this?

Look at the line. Looks like you can slide the disc drive off. Digital version would just have a standard faceplate instead.

We're really gone as gamers when people are advocating to pay more for digital goods they can lose ownership faster to at any given rate compared to physical media lol

Seriously.

For console gaming a digital only future would be absolutely terrible since sony, microsoft and nintendo has a complete monopoly on where games is downloading from, a.k.a. their one and only stores. Even if you buy a digital code for a console game from somewhere like best buy or amazon, the actual game download is still going through either ps store, eshop, or microsoft store. Digital console gaming is nowhere near comparible to digital PC gaming since PC gamers at least have multiple options to get their digital games. (Or even sailing the seas is a option, lol).

Yet, somehow, someway, certain derptastic gamers actually WANT this kind of future to happen for console gaming. I.....just don't get it. Dudes genuinely believe "wowie, now that these companies no longer have to use money printing discs, the savings will be passed on to we gamers!! Sony, nintendo, and microsoft will now push for lower prices out the goodness of their hearts and our 59.99......no 69.99.......no 99.99 standard version game prices will totally go back down to those 39.99 dollar PS1 game days! Also they will totally have a digital game trade-in system where you can sell digital games back for credit!!"

*Sony, microsoft, and nintendo's face with that kind of control*

I am no purist or fanatic who believes you can only buy games in one way or the other, I am a part of the common sense group that wants multiple options to exist because if you give too much control to these companies they will rip you the fuck off faster than you can blink. Nintendo barely drops prices for their 1st party games now, the fuck dudes think will happen when there is only one single method to buy nintendo games lol.

*Nintendo also has a habit of creating artificial rarity with even their digital games by de-listing shit for no other logical reason besides fuck you*
