To build on that, I want to know what the best mega man song is

I gotta admit I was disappointed when Mega Man was chosen rather than Pokemon. I was wanting to explore everything in the Mega Man series a few months back, and I was starting to get through much of the music. But I only got through the main series, the X games, and the Zero games, basically. This contest is going to kinda of spoil the rest of my exploration. And as I finish the exploration, I will inevitably find favorites in the series that I won't ever be able to nominate for a Mega Man contest again. Plus I probably wouldn't be able to qualify them for VGMC.

Maybe to make up for that, I'll just have to explore every Pokemon soundtrack in existence before the next Pokemon contest (if it even happens)! Actually, no, I don't think I will do that. I do think I will get to know all the music from every Kirby game at some point! I doubt there would ever be a Kirby music contest, though....

There should be a "Kirby and Touhou" contest, using the same eligibility rules as if they had their own contests, except they're combined into one contest.

I don't think the fangames are exactly going to take over the contest. I can only think of one fangame track off the top of my head that I even like, and I sure don't like it enough to use a nomination on it in a series with so much good music. I suspect I'm not alone there.

If it would be dumb for them to win the contest, however unlikely, they probably shouldn't be in.

I tend to agree, I just also don't think it's worth continuing to debate it.

I don't get why fan games are even being considered. Mega Man is a huuuuge series, so it's not like space needs filled to hit bracket numbers.

If they were all together in a separate part of the bracket, would that make any difference to you? It wouldn't change the winner, of course, but at least they wouldn't be knocking out heavy hitters from the main games until the later rounds.

Nope, I don't think they belong in at all.

But I also don't treat a series music contest as an opportunity for "discovery." I want to see how the songs I like best will do.

Oh, so you're not going to listen to anything unfamiliar during noms, despite a field size of 64/128, and you'll just nom/support your favorites?

Actually... maybe that's a good thing! Just stay away from the unfamiliar stuff and let the others decide what less popular stuff gets in!

(Ideally, I wouldn't have needed to "discover" anything at all, anyway)

I probably won't participate if there's a bunch of fangame songs. So yeah, please keep them out. If you want to run a fangame music contest, no one is stopping you.

Nah, I don't plan to listen to other people's stuff during noms if I don't know what it is.

Isn't a big complaint about unofficial music being in this contest is seeing it beat official music? If that's the case, my proposal does not make things worse. But okay, maybe you and (possibly) everyone thinks that fangame music getting a "win" is such a terrible thing no matter what they beat? A better argument against my proposal is that wins from unofficial music (in such a case) will take away the chances of official music winning. e.g., if 1/4 of the bracket is music not from Mega Man games and they take 16 wins, only 48 wins will go to the latter, when they could have gotten much more than 48 if everything was mixed.

VGMC is a great way to find new music. This isn't VGMC.

And yes giving fanmade stuff its own quadrant is a terrible solution because you're guaranteeing that I'm losing out on that many actual Mega Man songs.

to be clear, i am with you on that fangames should not be allowed. there is more than enough, it's just i'd like some obscure songs to do well from the series without people being mad about it

Youre not gonna be able to please people who will only be happy if MM2 Wily 1 wins, so dont bother.

I think you overestimate how many regular B8ers will actually participate. Likely it'll still be 80-90% VGMC playerbase.

I understand the fangame decision is unpopular with several of you. I attempted to reach a compromise between differing views on the subject, I may well have made the wrong choice but I hope people will still enjoy the contest. It's so close to the start of noms that I don't want to delay this any more when I don't think any outcome will please everyone. (Also I very much doubt fangame music will do very well >_>)
