I think the term has changed a bunch over time, so I'm just wondering.

depends on context

I usually think of it literally because I studied the Syrian Civil War a lot. Gassed to death.

There's also the modern slang for 'drunk' or 'hyped', kind of a shortening of 'gassed up'.

I know of gassed out, which means exhausted

And,

Gassed up, which means inflating someones ego and/or building/hyping them up, giving them a confidence boost, etc.

Yea, this didn't even come to mind at first but that's an absolutely serious use of it too.

Like most language, it completely depends on the context. It could mean that you are exhausted. It could mean that you are being subjected to poisonous gas. It could mean that you are on steroids, like "gassed up".

I really assume the meaning based on the context, to be honest.

I am talking about when someone says something like "I'm gassed." or "They're gassed."

I don't actually know if I've seen it used this way. Like gassing someone is farting on them, you know like doing the crop duster.

Saying, "I'm gassed" might actually mean that your drunk (and most likely feeling confident/good).

tired/exhausted, they used up their gas and are now sluggish

Watch a lot of UFC and it's often used to describe fighters that have tired themselves out.

In automotive terms, it can mean to have filled up the fuel tank, or in racing it can mean someone accelerated.

100% depends on the context.

But I tend to default to meaning "out of breath"/"tired", because I'm a wrestling fan and that's a term they use there to describe when someone's hit the limits of their cardio and are running out of endurance in a match.

Like, "It's not surprising the Ultimate Warrior got gassed 5 minutes into his match, what with his entrance being running down to the ring and then shaking the ropes like a maniac."

I've seen it meaning "gassed out" FAR more often than "gassed up." Watch any combat sports and the former will be a common usage while the latter is pretty much never used.

This.

It's a site where any given asshole can make shit up and pretend like their interpretation of any term is valid, and not just something that no one on Earth says other than them and maybe their friends. It's not like it's vetted or anything.

It's not really a great way to measure what things mean, or what slang is popular.
